New Header Photo and Free seeds

Changed the header photo as the picture of the cottage was taken when it still belonged to Mrs F and I don't want to take another now without leaves on the trees and hedges. The postbox is at the road end of our lane and is no good for posting anything much bigger than a postcard!

If you take out a subscription for Kitchen Garden Magazine you can get 3 months of magazines for £5 and 20 "free" packets of seeds. All you have to do is cancel the Direct Debit before they sign you up for another 6 months.

I've done this before and with a seed tin full of mostly old  seeds and a garden waiting it seemed just the time to do it again.

They arrived................all sorts.........some useful and some I don't need which I shall pass on to my sister if she wants them or brother-in-law or a friend. The only problem is I'm still waiting for the first magazine to arrive and there is no contact address or phone number on their website. So if anyone has a copy of the magazine laying about could you leave a comment with their phone number.......many thanks.

I love seed packets...........the promise of food from the garden....nothing better

Monday afternoon and I finally got a chance to get seeds sown. Into the electric propagator went chilli peppers, sweet peppers, cucumber - two sorts, tomatoes - two different plum variety, aubergines and basil. On the bench without heat are lettuce and leeks. Some old packets were only a year or so out of date so I've tried them.........sowing more than  I need just in case.

We have a little bit of money left on a Wyevale card and a voucher off compost so will detour there on the way to hospital to pick up multi purpose compost.

I keep forgetting to say welcome and thank you to all the followers who have switched over from the old blog. Hi to all 83...........already! Maybe a while before I get back to the 400+ !!

Back Soon
Sue

    1. Thank you Sheila. We've got the cheap raspberry canes in pots to plant out as soon as we can clear the very weedy bit in the fruit bed.

    1. Super douper greenhouse, came across the paperwork for it among other stuff left here, it cost a fortune about 10 years ago. Need to get a coat of preservative on it soon

  3. Oops I also had forgotten to click on the Follow button for your new blog, rectified now.

It's a brilliant offer from Kitchen Garden magazine.

The subscription phone number is 01507 529529. I have the April edition that arrived here last week so you should be getting your copy even if you have only just signed up for this. The initial free gift and the magazine do come from different places though so this could be why your magazine hasn't arrived yet :-)

  4. Your followers are increasing - 88 now! As for the magazine - I just Googled the offer and it says delivery of the next issue might be 4 - 6 weeks. So PATIENCE!!! I guess they wanted to get the seeds out to you pretty quick so you can get them started. - Rosemary x

    1. Oh thank you for that info - Patience is not my strong point!! I hadn't realised the 4-6 weeks thing so will give it another couple of weeks.

    1. We were told that they often get a blue tit nesting and have to seal it off for the duration! Hopefully after they've emptied it of letters

  6. I just love the post box, it's a King George I think, so a fairly old one,.It would so benefit from a good coat of a lovely glossy red, a snowy cap and a robin!
After my recent experiences with the excess charges for underpaid postage, anything over the size of a postcard should be taken to a post office for sizing!

    1. Yes, it's certainly looking it's age! I'm surprised it's still there after the one near the smallholding was stolen a few years back. The village we are now in has lots of small hamlets away from the main village and each one still has it's own post box which is unusual.

  7. Sounds like an excellent offer. Beautiful postbox, long may it remain hidden in your hamlet!

  10. It's a cute little postbox even if you can't post anything bigger than a postcard. I don't follow any blogs but I do read yours every time you post, so you can count me in as a follower if you would like.

  11. That's a good lot of seeds, worth getting the mag for, especially at £5 for 3 issues.

  12. I'm following Sue, but for some reason I'm following with my real name on the follower bar, not my bloggy name. Will I ever truly master the ins and outs of this game?! Nice post box btw.x

  17. I love the photo at the top of your page. So typically British. Seems like you'll have lots of work to do this Spring/Summer and hopefully lots of bounty later on. It must be nice to be back to growing your own food.

  18. I love your new blog header, Sue. And your photos in other posts that show all that green grass. Our grass here is dry and brown at the moment for lack of rain. A storm is forecast for today though so fingers crossed! I picked up four little packets of free seeds from the seed exchange at my local library a few weeks ago. I got marigold, spaghetti squash, lettuce and pink crocus. I can't wait to grow them! Meg:)
