Cheerful Colours

Yellow isn't my favourite colour so I'm not quite sure why I went for it for the living room. But now it's done and the new curtains up I'm more than happy with it. (BTW there's no input from Col when it comes to choosing colours or curtains. He'd just have white everywhere and no new curtains - in other words he's not a bit bothered about what the house looks like!)

The photo doesn't do the Lemon Tropics justice because it was just starting to rain as I took this and the colour is much brighter in sunshine.

Treated myself to some flowers after the dentist - thoroughly deserved after my ordeal!

Thank you for nice comments on my last post.

    1. When I started painting I realised this was the same colour I'd had in the kitchen at the smallholding about 15 years ago. So perhaps I do like yellow after all

  4. Ta da! Now sit back and enjoy....but beware insects....they love yellow and after a feast of berries can leave delightful graffiti...speaks someone who once had a yellow living room and kitchen. x

  5. Looks lovely & fresh curtains always make an impact. 'Interior design' is very much a solo activity here too & I suspect it is in many households!!

    1. Sometimes I'd just like him to say something useful, instead of "I Don't Mind"!

  6. I have white everywhere and haven't painted anything because that is how the house was. I also still have the curtains that were here when I moved in, can't see any point in changing them. Me and Col would obviously get on well!

    1. He did agree that it needed painting and does say it looks better.....but I expect he would have said that whatever I'd done!

    1. The curtains aren't the ones I saw on-line which were too dark, so good thing we went and looked at them properly

  12. Love the colour, Sue! Yellow - or the various shades of yellow from the palest primrose to the deepest lime, are our favourites. One colour that is particularly good is Pale Hound by Farrow & Ball. We decorated our sitting room in 2002 (yes, 15 years ago, but F&B paint is good and lasts well) with their lovely Gervase Yellow but this has been removed from the chart. However, I understand that when a paint has been 'archived' you can always have it made up for you. Your shade of yellow is beautiful, as are your new curtains. However, unlike Col, husband here loves to choose décor schemes with me. Thankfully, we both share the same tastes in this, as in most things. Many would consider this boring but it makes for a much easier life than having differing views!

    1. I'm hoping this paint is going to keep looking good for several years too. I still have a bedroom to do after we get an en-suite built in the corner............sometime.

    2. I am sure the paint will look good for several years to come. I love Farrow & Ball paint as their estate emulsion in particular has a lovely chalky finish, the depth of colour is wonderful. Another lovely shade we've used is Bone (for our bedroom) and House White (a sort of cream) on some bedroom furniture. Our go-to paint for woodwork (architraves and skirtings) is Clunch.

  13. Yellow is not my favourite coulour either but I like it the way you did it. Especially with the curtains hanging next to it. You did a great job.
I don't mind that my husband doesn't care very much about the decor and furnishings in our house :-)
Though there are a few things that he won't get rid of. Just the things I don't like particularly.

  16. I painted our bedroom a buttercup yellow colour and when I added the cream/burgundy curtains and other accents everything just looked wonderful.

  17. Really love your room and the curtains are really pretty. Yellow would not be my first choice either but it looks fantastic. I have only just read about Col's Dad, I am so sorry. Xx

  18. I love it Sue. Yellow is definitely my colour. I've had it in every room over the years at some point or other although there was one shade that was a little on the bright side even for me, but it's such a cheerful colour it always lifts the spirits.

Glad you've managed to get it all done. You've worked really hard over the past few days, I hope you've got some 'feet up' time pencilled in for yourself. xxx

  19. Love it and love yellow Sue. My farmhouse kitchen here on the farm has been yellow for the last twenty years - daffodil, sunshine, sunny day - various shades chosen from the shade card - all more or less the same colour!
