They are very sociable birds and like to nest with their family and friends. In spring this year I put a similar on the north facing gable end of my bungalow, made sure there was a plentiful supply of red millet ( their favourite food) and have been rewarded with 2-4 broods of tree sparrows! They have a delight to watch from my bedroom window , and I am chuffed to bits the box has been well used in its first year .
Shelly x
Envious about your owls :-)Shelly Whttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17849461150570092349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4787951981229151015.post-26272293124869460422017-08-07T21:30:17.032+01:002017-08-07T21:30:17.032+01:00Owls are ace.Owls are ace.Darwin Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05715389494434546700noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4787951981229151015.post-14227524602608079022017-08-07T21:19:16.978+01:002017-08-07T21:19:16.978+01:00How lovely to have barn owls, I hope you have grea...How lovely to have barn owls, I hope you have great success with the boxes.Simple Livinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00884864661226371141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4787951981229151015.post-22557522417960198212017-08-07T16:52:45.094+01:002017-08-07T16:52:45.094+01:00I love barn owls! Every time I worked in the garden surrounding it, she's spit bone pellets at me and I'd say, "I know. Keep your feathers on. I'll be done soon." But I knew she was keeping our yard clear of rodents. She was so beautiful.EM Griffithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05897942424655139102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4787951981229151015.post-34851681709235809592017-08-07T16:44:35.792+01:002017-08-07T16:44:35.792+01:00We are upping our collection of bird boxes after t...We are upping our collection of bird boxes after the fabulous experience of having blue tits nest in the one we had.
I don't think owls would nest in our garden but I would love it if they did-x-Sheilahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10528336306775217982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4787951981229151015.post-74893001315951329292017-08-07T16:30:14.909+01:002017-08-07T16:30:14.909+01:00How exciting that owls are using your box! We also have bug/butterflies/ single bee boxes and an upturned large pot for our local hedgehog, which is often used. You are so lucky to be able to observe owls in flight.
