Good.
Trouble is it's left a right mess behind it - it was obviously once tiled, so the big plastic shower cubical wasn't the first shower-in-the-bedroom.
Do you ever wish you hadn't started something?
Actually I have been asked why I'm getting all this work done. It's because that's what we've always done, bought a property, updated it, tidied everything up and sold for a profit.
I'm not daunted at all. It will be tidied and painted to the best of my ability, a date is fixed for a carpet and then I'll stand two wardrobes here to hide it all!

It is a bit messy, isn't it, but I am sure you will be able to sort out the worst of it and the wardrobes will hide anything that's remaining as well as being very useful.

DeleteIt's not too bad, I would have expected it to be worse than that. Once you've painted and go the new carpet down, it'll be like nothing was ever there! Will you get someone in to match up the coving and skirting?

The coving is too complicated to do because its all been shaped at the ends of the gap but the skirting board should be easy enough.
DeleteI've got some baskets to stand on top of the wardrobes - should solve (ie hide) that problem!
Do you intend to move on then Sue, when all the work is finished?

ReplyDeleteI'm the same, I like our home to give us the best lifestyles we can get, so things have to be done. Love the placing of wardrobes to help cover any imperfections.

DeleteIt must make the room much bigger now. It will be interesting to see the finished result - know one will ever know when it is completed that there was a shower there.

DeleteOnly practicle thing to add is to cap off the drain, without a U bend you might get nasty niffs.

DeleteYou are doing great Sue, I updated our property after I lost my DH, then sold it and moved to my bungalow, there's a bus stop at the end of the road and I can walk into town in 10 minutes. All in preparation for when I have to stop driving, hopefully not for a long time yet. Having a purpose did help me move on.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that I will be able to stay here for a while but a winter alone may change my mind so it's good to get things done and a bedroom without a shower is much more sensible

It seems that the old man who owned the place before they bought it was unable to climb the stairs to the bathroom, the dining room became his bedroom and only his little dog ever went upstairs to the bedrooms etc.

It adds so much space to the room, it's surprising how something that seems small actually depletes the size of a room. We once knocked down a small larder in the corner of the kitchen and were amazed by how much usable space we gained.
ReplyDeleteWell done on your plans and your 'get up and go', you're doing a brilliant job. It means you get to enjoy the fruits of your labours AND improve the house for resale in the future :-)

ReplyDeleteI don't think it would be very expensive to have that coving fixed, Sue. It looks like the stuff we had sorted out in our kitchen after removing a built in cupboard. Ours was just stuck on. They just cut it, patched in new coving and covered the joins with filler. When painted you can't tell. Might be worth investigating if you know a good, reasonably priced joiner? Best wishes, Eilidh x
