Frothy Coffee

I went right off tea last year, don't know why but it's resulted in my one-a-day frothy coffee treat turning into two-a-day.

If I was to buy the Nescafe sachets from the local Co-op they would be 8 for £2.79.
When the Nescafe ones are full price in the supermarkets they are £2.50
Sometimes they are on offer at £1.50 and before Christmas went down to £1.25
Big surprise to find just one of the flavours in Poundland in Diss this week for £1 - obviously- (I stocked up!)

But what I normally buy are the ones that Asda have for 84p

But still an awful LOT more than a tea-bag!

(Just spending the kids inheritance!)

PS apologies for not replying to many comments yesterday, I started then faded away!

  1. Nothing wrong with some little treats through the day. Nothing wrong at all and I'm glad you are.

  2. I too love those Nescafe frothy coffees, Sue, although I just have the plain unsweetened ones, 2 a day for me also. I've tried all the supermarket own brands but none of them are as nice as the Nescafe ones. Aldi's own brand ones are 89p for a box of 10, rather than 8 (Nescafe used to be 10, until a couple of years ago when they quietly reduced them to 8 without saying anything, hoping nobody would notice - well I did!). So what I do is buy 2 Aldi boxes to 1 Nescafe box, open them all up and mix them together in a plastic tub, that cuts the cost quite a lot without affecting the taste very much.

  4. I'm not a big fan of coffee, but do wonder often at the pricing disparity as it sometimes seems an awful lot of money for a bean in water.

  5. I went of tea and coffee for a long while and just had water or Robinson cordial now I have Nescafé from the £1 shop or tea and sometimes I like the flavoured tea. I do like Hot Chocolate or Horlicks made with milk especially when I am feeling a bit lot.

I have a special coffee at Knit and Natter today.

  7. I love cappuccinos. We invested in a machine which scares me to death. It has a steam thing which makes the milk frothy.

  8. We buy them for when we're working away at the shows. It means that on the Sunday we can take a flask of hot water with us [filled up at the hotel] and enjoy these rather that having to buy the very expensively priced coffee at the venue. Took us ages to work out that particular little wheeze! Arilx

  9. My one treat is to buy 'proper coffee' - I limit myself to one cup a day and drink it at leisure usually after my lunch. It always seems an indulgence.

  10. I meant to say that Aldi are stocking dies at the moment, so there may be something for you there.

Yes, you could have a teabag and save money, but you have a little treat instead. You're worth it!

  11. Frugal is fine, but if you really like the coffee and don't enjoy tea then you should have the coffee. Go for it and enjoy!

  12. You need to give yourself a treat every so often and a nice cup of frothy coffee is a small one at that.

    God bless.

  13. Since I've lived here (four years) I have not bought any instant coffee of any sort. Instead, I have medium roast ground coffee (never dark roast). You don't need a posh machine, just a good filter cone. I was using filter papers inside a porcelain one, but now have a stainless steel one that doesn't need the paper. Even the Poundland coffee (in the red packet) is perfectly drinkable and (to me) has more flavour than instant. And only "£1 - obviously"! (Don't like the dark roast though.)
I drink decaf after about 2pm (so as not to be kept awake), and, to me, the best one is from Lidl, in a blue packet. Cheap and tasty.
I do drink tea as well, but that's another story!

    2. OH, YES!
It did - but I came in on Monday afternoon, tired from a day out, and found it on the mat.
So I put it on one side to read later - and forgot about it!!!! How could I?!!!

  14. I love coffee but I have high blood pressure so any coffee must be decaff so I stay with tea and milk for breakfast. I do treat myself to a white chocolate mocha sometimes. Wish they had a bit more of UK groceries available here.

  15. Last year I was quite ill with kidney problems and, for some reason, went right off coffee.....as silly as it sounds, I couldn’t even watch coffee adverts on TV as they made me very nauseous....very weird.
