The Greenhouse

My neighbours at the cottage struggled for a week when they got their greenhouse and it nearly ended in divorce  but on Tuesday a man came and, all by himself, put up my greenhouse in just under 5 hours.

He said he'd been doing the job for 25 years so knew all the possible problems.

I've moved in the small bit of metal staging I brought with me, the 2 Pepper plants that aren't looking too bad, the 1 Aubergine which hasn't grown much, the straggly tomato and the Very Small cucumber plant that obviously didn't like being outside.
Next year I'll be all ready for getting started much earlier and the concrete base won't look quite so stark.

    That looks great. It will look less new once you have the staging up in it. Your plants will thrive now.

    I've always wanted a greenhouse but Keith, not a gardener, has said no - as he didn't want to assemble it I assume. He once got a 2nd hand one because his ex-wife wanted it and he really struggled with erecting it, so no, I am to suffer for that. I have just the spot for one too . . .

    So pleased your greenhouse is up and ready to starting planting it's a lovely size.
    Well the weather looks good today so I hope to cut up a large bush in the garden for the garden bin is empty.

    Good, now you'll really feel at home. Getting a greenhouse was one of the first things I did when I moved. Mine looks about the same size as yours but two men put it up. Very impressed by the solo effort!

    Great news. Much earlier than expected, too. Lovely to have a fresh new place for your gardening adventures. Will give you much to think about over the winter as you make plans for next year.

    Looks like our greenhouse. I seem to have got the aubergines right this year. I was careful not to water too much when little as they don't grow or die, but once they get going I watered with tomato food and they are growing fast, 2 in the greenhouse and 2 outside. Just being careful to let them drain properly. But they haven't any flowers on yet.

    Your greenhouse looks great. One of the first things I did when I moved was to get a greenhouse too, I got a man in to build it. I didn't want upset relatives if I asked them to help me.

    I'm envious. I've always wanted one but never have had a greenhouse. I'm hoping that living in this cooler climate here in New Hampshire a greenhouse will one day grace our property. Yours is lovely.

    I feel for your old neighbours. There'd be divorce proceedings here if I was so unwise as to suggest anything in the way of "practical" to my husband. I love him dearly, but he's an academic - that's his excuse and he's sticking to it! Soon after we moved into our first house (1976!) a fuse went, and I had to get the FIL around to supply fuse wire. Next time I was paying an electricity bill (remember the days when you went in to pay bills!!) I saw a little pamphlet "How to change a fuse and wire a plug", which I proudly showed him ... "What, I don't see anything" was his response, with his eyes firmly shut!

    Next year's plantings in the greenhouse will be watched by us all with interest, and envy!
