Today is the beginning of the two busy birthday months, (and there was DiL's at the end of last month too) some just birthday cards, others cards and presents. Eldest granddaughter is 9 today and a nephews birthday too - he must be around 41-ish. Then there is youngest grandson's 4th birthday on the 13th and son's on the 17th, poor old fella will be 44. Then more cards and a couple of presents in November, and at the same time Christmas presents need sorting as well - complicated on the buying presents front! Thank goodness for amazon - who can deliver straight to grandchildren.
The lovely colours on the vine against the blue sky early in the week. It's on a piece of trellis by the shed and I have to cut it back so many times through the summer that I often think it's a real nuisance.
But then the colours in autumn persuade me to keep it for a while longer.
I've had a quiet week reading and not going far after being a bit unwell last weekend, hopefully antibiotics are sorting me out, something I've not needed for many, many years. I'm going to have to watch out for foods that effect me even more than before.
One of the books I read was a re-read of Susan Hill's Book "Howard's End is on the Landing" which is her book about reading only her own books for a year. I'm sure I enjoyed it first time but second time not so much. Then I read two other old crime fiction that I'd bought cheap off abebooks a while ago as they are part of a series and too old for the library to still have. Need to decide which other of my own books to read before the mobile library is bringing me a bagful next week. Choosing which of my own to read is hard!
This is new - it popped up on the post compose page...............
Google Search links: Based on your blog content, Blogger will automatically identify key words and phrases in your post and insert search links in case your readers want to explore more. In Compose View, look for the pencil icon at the top-right of the page to get started.
I clicked on the pencil icon to see what happened and links appeared all over the place and I had to undo them all individually. aaaagh!
We've probably all got used to blogger throwing in changes with no warning but do readers want to "explore more". And I can put in my own links Thank You Very Much!
Did anyone watch the much publicised 'Celebrity Traitors' - oh my - I found it dreadful - half an episode was enough. One celeb on their own is OK, even 2, 3 or 4 is not too bad - as on Have I got News For You or Richard Osman's House of Games but all that lot at once NO, NO.
Another thing watched was episode one of Murder before Evensong - the TV adaptation of the Rev Richard Coles book - didn't think much of that either!
But for something completely different that I do love - Ed Sheeran's new release
and the latest from Lewis Capaldi too.
Back Monday - fine weather forecast here for the weekend - have a good one whatever your weather.
Hope you are making a good recovery, staying home quietly and reading is good medicine sometimes. I agree, anything which has Celebrity in the title on the TV will almost certainly be a turnoff for me. A few things I've watched are ok but groups of celebrities - no thanks! Penny
What is it with tv shows? There are too many where the contestants deliberately try to deceive and betray each other. I've never watched Traitors, Half an episode of Destination X was enough, and there's a new Quiz show which looks to be on exactly the same principles, or lack of principle one could say. Boo to all of them. In contrast, Would I Lie To You, although about deceiving people, seems so much more innocent and wholesome.
Hope the antibiotics do their job and you recover fully very soon. I didn’t watch Celebrity Traitors as I don’t like the show and Strictly isn’t enthralling me either. I’m spending the weekend emptying the bedroom furniture for decorating and will be decluttering as I go. Catriona
I tend to half watch Strictly and it takes several weeks for me to be really interested in who's on and how they are doing. It's the pro dance that's always good
Four birthdays between this coming Monday and the following Tuesday, and that's just the beginning of it here too. I am also re reading Howard's End is on the Landing. Enjoying Traitors Celebrities, but sad to learn Stefan Dennis won't be on SCD tonight. I don't like the sound of his wife's Instagram post as it sounds as if he might have a medical issue.
I hope you're feeling much better now. There seem to be a number of bugs doing the rounds at present. I don't watch reality shows. I saw Richard Coles blowing his own trumpet somewhere - Facebook, maybe - but won't be rushing to watch whatever it is he's involved in. I generally am put off by anything with slebs in.
Children especially love their celebrations, the cake and special presents. Amazon comes in very handy for present shopping. I hope you feel better soon. The weather is beautiful here too, but it is definitely much cooler which I prefer over the 90+ degree F days we had.
I've only seen one Murder at Evensong and my verdict is still out. Maybe I'll watch the next. I wanted to finish the new Lynley's first. I liked those. And now, revisiting the old ones. Have you seen The Gold? We just streamed all six episodes this week, along with the first new Maigret (my jury is still out on that -- I liked it, if I don't think of him as the Maigret I know from the books and other series.) I saw that link thing too and nope -- not for me. I'll put in a link when and if I want to!
We tried Murder Before Evensong 3 days running and were both asleep in the first 15 minutes. So I guess we will keep it for some future bout of insomnia. On the other hand we did like Maigret - I never warmed up to the earlier series so just ignoring that link.
The link thing is a real pain in the a*se. Like you I fell for it and had to delete all the links on by one. I tried it out by clicking on a couple of links on Jennie's post and they are really random links that if you were just reading a blog you really have no use for.
I don't watch any 'celebrity' type shows except Gogglebox, and especially not Celebrity Traitors, or the 'normal' person one in this case. The more they hyped it everywhere the more it got my back up, a lot of people do really enjoy it though. Each to their own.
Hope you are making a good recovery, staying home quietly and reading is good medicine sometimes.

There was so much hype for the celeb traitors - but I'll not be watching more
DeleteI find the celebrities on ROHOG irritating. But Ed is a good ol Suffolk boy, and I enjoy his stuff. I have never watched any episodes of Traitors
ReplyDeleteThey seem to have run out of well known celebs for House of games in this new series - haven't a clue who some are

Didn't watch any of Destination X and I caught a few minutes of the new quiz you've mentioned with Amada Holden? Really bad!
DeleteWe have just purchased all the necessary birthday cards for everyone's birthdays until early January, while to shops still have choice.
ReplyDeleteI've got a good selection picked up from car boot sales this summer, so rarely have to go to the card shops

Hadn't heard about any instagram - I shall investigate.

Much better thank you.
DeleteI read the first book by Richard Coles but didn't think much of it and the TV prog they've made of it wasn't brilliant
Hands up to it I love Traitors in all its guises 😆
ReplyDeleteSorry you've been unwell, hope you feel a hundred per cent soon.
Alison in Devon x
So much hype about the celeb Traitors that I felt I had to watch a bit just to see - but too many egos!
DeleteFeeling better thank you

Chillier here today - well, 14 C or mid 50's F, but still fine.
DeleteIt would cost me a lot more to post presents to grandchildren in Surrey so I am glad of amazon to deliver
I think that vine is what we in the states would call Virginia creeper. (Maybe it's called that here too.) It's very prolific!
ReplyDeleteI haven't run into that automatic linking function but I hope Blogger doesn't foist it upon me. I don't want it!
Same name here for the vine. The link function is a pencil on the new post page - don't click it! (unless you want a dozen links to appear)
DeleteThat linky thing happened to me, too, but no matter what I did I couldn't eradicate them. Tablet has limited command functions.
ReplyDeleteI just deleted the words that had been highlighted and retyped but won't be clicking that pencil thing again!

ReplyDeleteThat new Maigret hasn't been released here yet - hopefully sometime.
DeleteThose changes appeared here in Canada about a week ago. I haven't touched anything and now after reading your post am even less inclined to do so.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
A feature not needed!

Ceci.
Oh dear, not a good recommendation for Murder before Evensong!
DeleteI hope that new Maigret gets here soon, no date for UK release yet
