T is for Two Tins of Tomatoes ............

 ..........tipped all over the floor - not on purpose obviously!

I emptied two tins of plum tomatoes into the liquidiser jug to whizz them up as I was making a large batch of Quorn Bolognese/tomato pasta sauce. I picked up the liquidiser to fit it onto the top of my Kenwood Chef and the bottom fell off - I thought it was screwed on properly and tight...............it wasn't!

Oh My! what a mess the contents two tins of tomatoes dropped from a height can make - everything for several feet around was splattered!

Took me an age to clear up. What started out as a half hour in the kitchen cooking turned into 1½ hours, two soggy tea towels, three soggy dish cloths, one mop and a mucky brush and dustpan and the little mat by the sink is still outside getting rained on to clean it.

Luckily I had two more tins of plum tomatoes in the cupboard and eventually ended up with 9 portions of tomato/carrot/onion and Quorn mince sauce  to pop in the freezer.




This was a couple of weeks ago, the day after the boiler broke down! I waited in trepidation for the third thing to go wrong................

    1. I can't remember what idea I had for T before this but Tinned Tomatoes certainly came in handy!!

  2. Oh NO!!! Was the air blue, or are you self-controlled! What a mammoth mess that would've been. And I'll bet you'll be finding little splashes for weeks to come. Were you covered as well? I'm guessing the answer to that is yes! I do hope it's not stained anything and you can bear to eat the resulting meals... I think it'd put me off tomatoes for weeks!

  3. What a mess! How frustrating - at least it happened at the beginning of the process. It would have been even more upsetting to lise a pan of cooked sauce all over the floor.

    1. I had to carry on with the making as it was half made on the hob - it would have been a much bigger disaster if I'd lost the quorn and onions etc too

  4. Sue, you should just tell us what a brilliant planner you are in having this accident when you needed "T". You might even persuade us that it wasn't an accident but rather an incident for our delectation!

  5. Some people have a tradition of Fall cleaning as well as Spring cleaning... I'm guessing this wasn't the plan...?

  7. Oh Sue!!! I can just imagine how far that lot travelled. Coming down the stairs a couple of weeks ago I fell down the last two whilst holding a teacup of tea that was a quarter filled, I couldn’t believe how far and wide it all went! So two tins of tomatoes, I feel your pain.🤣 June

  8. Oh no-tomatoes tend to stain so it’s good you managed to clear it quickly. The ready meals look lovely and I hope you enjoyed one after all your hard work. Catriona

  9. It must be a design flaw with the liquidiser on those Kenwoods, because exactly the same thing happened to me back when we lived on the farm. Only mine was after I had whizzed up a batch of tomato soup. The kitchen looked like a crime scene. Why is is always red stuff that does everywhere?

    I think we are all batch cooking at the moment aren't we, it's very satisfying.

    1. Oh my, what a mess tom soup would make - even worse that tinned toms I reckon. I should have known to check the base bit as like you say it sometimes doesn't screw up properly first time.
      I've got to stop batch cooking now as eldest daughter has just asked me to get the turkey for them to cook for Christmas day and at the moment it will hardly fit in the freezer!

  10. Oh my goodness, that sort of thing is such a nuisance isn't it.....only this morning I dropped a container of dog kibble all over our utility floor - the dogs thought it was wonderful, I had to push them out of the door before they ate the lot! But at least it was dry and not bright red!

  11. What a mess that would be! I had to look up Quorn as I didn't know what that was - vegetarian meat?

  13. Accidents happen! I once dropped a gallon jug of milk on the kitchen floor. It was like a river. Bath towels helped soak up the milk then I had to wash the entire floor and wipe down drawer fronts where the milk splashed up.
    Accidents like this can take a good part of a day to resolve. Sometimes plans take a not-so-great detour.

  15. Ugg, I can only imagine the mess. I once didn't wait for the blade to stop in our blender and tried to push down carrots (I was making baby food) and that ended up all over my face and the ceiling.

  16. I really struggle nowadays to clean up such spillages. Last week I dropped a pasta bowl that had pasta and sauce in it, so lost my supper and broke a dish. Took me nearly an hour to clean it up.
