It's less than a week until the mobile library is round again, bringing me at least seven books but I still have so many here unread.
As always ................so many books.........not enough time.
I've read 5 of the books I collected at the beginning of this month but the one below was 'A Book Too Many'
It's the 29th in the D.I Wesley Peterson Tradmouth series and I've read all the others but just struggled to get into this one - it's just like all the others, much too much the same - details HERE. Maybe I'll come back to it sometime when I'm short of ideas.
I ought to be reading this
But instead I'm reading this
the latest in this clever series about our late queen and her investigations. This time it's 1961 and an unreliable witness says that from her window on the royal train she's seen someone murdered.
And I'm lucky to have been gifted copy of this
by J, my friend from exercise group. She had ordered a copy and then been given a copy and I'm the lucky recipient of the spare. Thank you J.
Imagine having nothing to read..............it never happens here!

I had a Kindle copy of the almanac last year and the year before. I enjoyed them... but could always reread them for another year! Although the dates for astonomy and festivals would all be wrong...
ReplyDeleteI had a copy of the 1st Almanac - I think - but haven't had one since.
DeleteAudible is pushing the latest Kate Ellis book - The Shadow Collector, but these titles do as you say repeat the stories which are all very similar. The Peterson is her 17th book in this particular crime set.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why Audible is promoting a book from so long ago? She's been writing one a year for so long and they really are all much the same
DeleteLike you Sue I love books. Some I obtain from BorrowBox where I can read on my IPad..also from the library. Long May we have libraries. I also buy a few from Amazon second hand. I read a varied selection of books. I like to be hooked in on the first couple of pages, when you are you know it’s going to be good.Through books you can be anywhere you want to be..not a bad thing in the sad times we are living in at the moment. Thank you for all your reviews Sue. June
ReplyDeleteI'm very thankful for our Suffolk libraries and free reservations
DeleteThe Almanacs are lovely books aren't they. Very nice to be given a surplus copy by your friend.
ReplyDeleteNothing to read is also never my problem!
Penny
It was a lovely surprise.
DeleteI abandoned one from the library this week. If a book could have indigestion written into the words, this was one! Mycroft & Sherlock, by authors unknown to me. However, I can recommend Murder in the Afternoon by Frances Brody. I did enjoy that.
ReplyDeleteI tried FB a long time ago - can't remember why I didn't get on with it
DeleteWith nothing to read I'm not worth knowing.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean!
DeleteI am always disappointed when a much heralded book with several positive recommendations comes my way and I am just not 'taken' by it.
ReplyDeleteI am reading (no scrap that - I cast is aside last night) one at the moment and I have attempted and persisted for several evenings and finally decided to shelve it and see if it 'improves' with keeping, if not it is off to the book exchange.
Hope your book matures on the shelf!
DeleteHow kind of your friend to gift you the 2026 Almanac, you will love it as it follows the Ogham Alphabet through the year, enjoy. Jan
ReplyDeleteYes, some information a bit different to my Ogham Tree Alphabet book
DeleteI cannot imagine having nothing to read!!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I visited Alan's sister many, many years I wondered what was wrong with her house, it was only on the journey home that I realised ... she did not possess a single book, or even magazine!!
No books and magazines is a frightening thought
DeleteA lovely selection of books , I really need to get to the library, avoiding the bad weather which has been flooding some of our routes in to town .
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Plenty of mud and large puddles around here but thankfully no flooding
Deletewhat a lovely cover on the 2026 Almanac. I have a 2019 copy which I am now using as an art journal
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which Almanac I had, but it was several years ago now and this one has different things in it
DeleteWhen I was sick just after Christmas, I ran out of library books to read. Luckily, I had an old favorite from much younger days, Charlotte's Web, and it was such a comfort to read it again while I was recovering.
ReplyDeleteI've got several books that are OK in case of emergency on my shelves - always a back up plan!
DeleteThe ones about the Queen just look fun! I know what you mean when a book in a series just doesn't work like the others did.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen investigates are really good . This one is the 5th and another due this year . Hope you can get them
DeleteThanks for the mention of the Queen book. I didn’t know there was another one out. I have downloaded it.
ReplyDeleteAny sign of my snowdrops? Do you want to give it another go, I can drop some off for you.
I've got one patch of snowdrops. Everything planted here just gets smaller - it's not a good garden - I might still move!
DeleteSome nice reads! I tried to get a copy of that last one, but couldn't manage it at a price I could live with lol.
ReplyDeleteMy gift was a lovely surprise. The old ones are around second-hand but of course they are then out-of-date
DeleteWith your great library book delivery service plus your own collection of books, you are guaranteed books.
ReplyDeleteLovely gift from a thoughtful and generous friend!
