Possible Spring Reading?

The pages that introduce the Spring part of The Country Commonplace Book by Miranda Mills.

And above is another page from the same book . There are several similar pages through the book with ideas for reading at various times of the year. I'll share more as the year progresses.

Out of the 6 listed, I have a copy of 'Rain' by Melissa Harrison - found at one of the second-hand book sales last Autumn and I've read The Lark by E. Nesbit - one of her adult books that Dean Street Press/Furrowed Middlebrow reprinted in 2017 although I didn't keep it as it was a very light romance type book. The library had ' The Place of Tides' by James Rebanks (who also wrote the bestseller 'The Shepherds Life'), so I  reserved a copy, which arrived last week. I looked up details of the others but they don't appeal - is 'Darling' an updated version of 'The Pursuit of Love'? Sounds like it.

  1. Thanks for the book list, always interested in these. I shall look out for the Blue Castle.

  2. I got that Commonplace book for Christmas; it was on my wishlist after reading your recommendation. It's lovely! The only book I've read on that list is The Pursuit of Love... which I reread so often I'm not sure, thirty years later, that I could read it again! I didn't watch the TV adaptation. It was too far away from my own imagination of the characters.

    1. I have never been satisfied with a film adaptation of ANY beloved book for just that reason!

  3. I was amused that The Pursuit of Love was featured! I was thinking more about nature study.

  4. I've only read one on that last, but I do have Miranda's Commonplace book which I haven't actually read yet. I seem to be halfway through three different books at the moment, I have no idea how that happened!!

  5. When I was in the library of Monday they had a display of March books. Someone had done a great job in selecting them-by author or words in the title. Catriona

  6. I've never read for the seasons. I look for recommendations on blogs (like yours!) or just browse the shelves in my library. I do lean towards mysteries.

  7. I don't read for the seasons, but pick up on recommendations. I just 'read' a ghost story (audio book) by Susan Hill, which had a disappointing ending.
