Thanks everyone for comments yesterday. .....the boring boot-sale photo and today because I'm short of blogging topics, I'm resorting to a picture of shopping .......another boring topic! but curiously fascinating to so many people - including me although...................
I looked at 2 minutes of a frugal youtuber unloading her frugal shopping before deciding that I'd seen enough of someone saying she was frugal while buying things that aren't (in my opinion anyway!) Of course they might be vital to her existence, even coca cola!
I don't know who the youtuber was as I couldn't find it again. I really shouldn't watch even 2 minutes of these as mostly they make me cross!
My shopping ...............
Everything from Aldi again. Vegetables were salad leaves, purple sprouting broccoli, celery, mini potatoes(British from Norfolk - well done Aldi), baby plum tomatoes. Fruit in season British apples and pears . Into the fridge - 4 pints milk, extra mature cheddar, Shropshire blue and 'salad' cheese (aka feta). For the freezer 2 packs of sweet potato fries, petit pois peas and fish in batter. For the store cupboard - wholemeal bread flour, cashews, multi grain crackers, ground coffee, jar of olives and stock cubes. Total spend £30.89.
............with no coca-cola!
Sorry folks, seems I'm getting cranky and boring!

Cranky and boring is a perfect combination in my eyes! Lovely shopping except yuk to olives! I keep trying them in vain. I suppose posting shopping photos is one up from the nosying we do into other people's trolleys waiting in line at the till ! Keep em coming Sue. For one thing - can see the cost of living is definitely going up and up.
ReplyDeleteOlives might be an age thing, I didn't like them until I was past 60!
Deletelol I’m well past 60 and still don’t like them. Not for want of trying but the taste buds say no thank you!
DeleteThat looks like a good healthy diet Sue. Aldi and Lidl are our saviours as far as price is concerned.
ReplyDeleteI've been able to get almost everything from Aldi recently, very handy
DeleteI could happily eat everything you have bought. Not a boring post at all.
ReplyDeleteI'm really short of blog ideas this week and next week too. Need to try harder!
DeleteNot a fan of most You Tube and videos - especially the ones who don’t know how to edit. I read faster than people talk so it just takes too long. Also is it really necessary to hold up a pack of sausage rolls with 99p written on it with a big sharpie and announce”sausage rolls 99p”?
ReplyDeleteI think I need to give up All frugal vloggers!
DeleteYou did well with your shopping, I too get cross with those who say they are frugal, whilst their actions show they are not, but this newer generation is very different to us.
ReplyDeleteVery true
DeleteI watch some YouTubes at double speed, does make their voice sound funny so I mute and read the captions. People have odd ideas about what 'frugal' is...
ReplyDeleteLike K, I put these on double speed too, and add captions and mute them (thus avoiding the chipmunk voices) Let's face it, we all have different ideas about "frugality". I always splurge for"proper" Marmite, but happy with any old economy baked beans. Your posts are never boring, Sue, because you always leave us with something to ponder, or teach us something new, or share a picture or poem to brighten the day.
DeleteI didn't know about double speed - that sounds fun!
DeleteThank you Ang, but I still reckon shopping photos are boring! I need to do some searching for post ideas
I agree your posts are never boring and I love any of your country life items. Your shopping contains a lot of things I would buy. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be posting meal photos next !
DeleteHi Sue, I love your posts! I'm down in the Westcountry and I find a frugal shop for food and cleaning things is great at Home Bargains. I've had a look to see how many branches there are in Suffolk - are any of them near you or on the way to somewhere?
ReplyDeleteWell worth a look and I find here anyway, earlier is better than later in the day if its any help? A different blog post/comparison when you're stuck for ideas?
All the best, Gen
No Home Bargains very close , we have a B&M in Stowmarket which is similar but the car park has to be paid for. There's a new one in Diss just opened - I shall investigate.
DeleteUnless I go to Brecon (which has a B&M Bargains), I am stuck with Tesco and Aldi. I usually go to Aldi first and buy the staples, and then Tesco for cat food and things Aldi don't sell. I only buy one tray of meat each week. This week it was pork mince. You have a healthy basket there. Mine, ahem, had a pack of Tesco own brand choccy bars and I bought Bliss lemon yoghurts for a treat.
ReplyDeleteTesco in Stowmarket is small - not a Tesco express but not huge and always seems expensive
DeleteI’m amazed at how much you got for £30!
ReplyDeleteAnd I would eat it all, except for celery (the devil’s own food, imo!)
Like other readers of your blog, I never find your content boring, although I can sympathise with finding topics and angles to write about.
J’nan
I must try harder to find things to write about but with the diesel prices I won't be going very far to have any adventures
DeletePeople, including me, to my surprise, do like food shopping posts! I post my weekly grocery delivery and get happy comments. It amazes me, but if I'm late posting, people start checking by email! I like your produce choices, not dull at all. Like meal pix, which people make fun of, but still like.
ReplyDeleteI have something a bit more interesting for tomorrow - thankfully
DeleteSetting a good example, Sue. I have stocked up from Aldi on extra coffee beans, red lentils, tinned sardines at 45p , and wholemeal bread flour at 99p, a few extra tins of corned beef.
ReplyDeleteI am getting a sack of white bread flour. Sainsbury’s have loose leaf red label tea in stock at £1.75 for 250g. I am going to buy some extra rice and pasta, they keep well. A bit of careful extra spending now as a buffer against price rises and possible shortages. We won’t need to panic buy. We have good dark chocolate. We have toilet rolls.
We are planning our journeys to save fuel. A walk to the local Co-op if we need extra milk.
Not cranky to my way of thinking, more realistic. What kind of tea do you drink now? Or is it only coffee that you drink? It seems that Brits moved from TG tips & Typhoo to Yorkshire and now other brands. DL
ReplyDeleteYes, maybe some of your favorite or easiest recipes that you make from your purchases would be good posts, Sue.
ReplyDeleteI love a good grocery haul, but like you, if I get bored early on I move to another video. I have found myself watching more youtube now more than ever! I am really loving it. TV shows anymore are horrible. Too much reality TV that is NOT reality! lol. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI think you are realistic, not cranky!
ReplyDeleteAldi still seems to be the best value and I would have to drive quite a way to get to one.

Frugal means so many different things. The Coca Cola may have been the one and only thing that lady wished for all week (perhaps having denied herself of it for a long time) and she could have been willing to give up something else in order to have it. Cashews would do it for me. Here stateside they are horrendously expensive, so as much as I love them, I chose walnuts last week for nearly half the price, and less than half the enjoyment.
