How good it was to see the sun here in Mid Suffolk on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and a bit of warmth ....especially through glass. Pity about Wednesday and Friday.
I trundled off back to the opticians at the beginning of the week and had the tests that involve eye drops, bright lights and no driving for a couple of hours. No problems were spotted and I went and had a coffee and sausage roll in the Co-op and read a book while waiting for the effects to wear off. I'll now have a check every year instead of every two years which it was before.
We sometimes get up to 16 people at the exercise group but for several weeks in winter we've been down to just seven or eight . So I put information about the group on the facebook pages of some of the local villages and we got a shock this week when suddenly 8 new ladies, who all knew each other, appeared, all from the same village a few miles away. It was a bit overwhelming! Altogether there were 22 of us - A record. Just have to see if any of them will come regularly now they've started. The only problems is that it's difficult to learn names with so many new people all at once and we can't fit around the tables at coffee time!
It seemed like a good plan to keep the car topped up with diesel due to the 'happenings' in the Middle East which the UK seems to have been dragged into whether we like it or not. So even though I filled up last week I put in another £16 worth to top right up again and according to the dashboard reading that should do over 500 miles - although I'm never sure how accurate that is. I'm glad I got the heating oil ordered before prices rise. Still waiting for delivery, they are probably suddenly extra busy. Someone said it's doubled in price in a week! - No price cap on oil - we're out in the country so don't count in the minds of politicians.
Once upon a time I used to write a little list of the things I had been grateful for during the week. Why have I forgotten to do that for 17 months?
I want to note the small good things - the opposite of the news we hear every day.
- A few days of sunshine and dry weather after the wet Winter
- A goldfinch on the birdfeeder
- The mobile library and good books for free
- The winter Paralympics are on TV now for the week - should be interesting to watch.

Good that your exercise group has had a boost in numbers. Even if they don't all 'stick' it will help the group to keep going. Community FB pages are useful sometimes!
ReplyDeleteNew members usually arrive one at a time - so 8 was a shock but good
DeleteSounds like quite a nice week, doesn't the sun make a difference. I also topped up with fuel in the car, there had been massive queues apparently when things kicked off but it seemed normal when I went.
ReplyDeleteI think a little list of positives is a great idea. I try to count the blessings of the day when I go to bed.
Penny
I didn't see any queues at the pumps on Thursday but I only went past 1 garage!
DeleteThat's a great turnout! And as problems go, it's a good one. I hope it helps to keep the group going for everyone.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad everything was okay for you at your appointment. Xx
It was a relief that there were no eye problems spotted. I'm OK for a year now - hopefully
DeleteI am glad that I got my 500L of heating oil when I did! Tam gave me a link to an app for fuel prices so I can see where it's cheapest in my area (believe me, Builth is THE most expensive place for fuel). Today for diesel, Asda are asking £156.9. Opposite them is the Texaco garage, asking £151.9 ...
ReplyDeleteYes, a list of positives would be a good thing to write about today.
It's unusual for the oil company I use to take over a week but hopefully they will get to me soon.
DeleteDiesel was still under £1.50 a litre here, it doesn't vary much between most of the garages although always a few pence cheaper in Youngest Daughters town
Really enjoyed the sunshine, managed a trip to the beach and sitting outside(well wrapped up) to do some paperwork…hopefully a taste of things to come. x
ReplyDeleteNot sitting out weather here. The sun was warm but still so damp underfoot keeping it cooler
DeleteSunshine changes everything. You have to make the most of it though; it's wet again now. Husband walked into town yesterday to pick up a few bits 'I don't mind a bit of drizzle ' came back looking drowned!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to remember the good things, there are so many.
Hope your husband got dry and warm quickly, no fun getting soaked and cold
DeleteIt's amazing how soon the profiteering starts and how slowly prices go back down again afterwards. I always try to think of 5 good things from the day when I go to bed. I don't write them down, but it just gives me something nice to think of before I go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteThe heating oil companies have put the prices up by a lot already - which doesn't seem right.
DeleteThe problem with the fuel going up in price is food will go up too due to rising costs for hauliers. Two local petrol stations (owned by the same family) had their prices up right away and still people queued to fill up.It’s beautifully sunny here this morning so I am going to enjoy the day and not look at the news. Catriona
ReplyDeleteIt always seem strange how they put up prices straight away, selling what's already in their underground tanks for more.
DeleteYes, price rises all round again……..
ReplyDeleteIt’s always good to remember the positives, TQ x
Alison in Devon x
I think it will be many months before we see the oil prices go down - if they actually do.
DeleteIts been lovely to see the sunshine and dry the washing outside. I planted a hanging basket with some pansies from B&M, they have such cheery little faces. Like you I've topped the petrol up. When I went on Monday it was 127p and on Thursday it was 130p! Xx
ReplyDeleteDiesel is always several pence more than petrol but hopefully more mpg
Delete8 new people in the exercise group is great. Your advertisement worked well.
ReplyDeleteThe Middle East crisis is expanding and we all pay. I hear oil tankers in the region are threatened and will now be escorted by Naval ships.
March is usually soggy/wet weather. It is raining here and the snow continues to melt during the day but sometimes freeze at night.
We were not expecting 8 new people all at once - hope some will keep coming.
DeleteGrey misty is our latest weather trend
It's strange to have an influx of new members in March, I would think. It's usually January that seems to spur people into a resolution to 'get fit.'
ReplyDeleteIt was due to me putting the details of the group on village Facebook pages that the ladies saw and decided to come and see
DeleteI put up my new birdfeeder yesterday on a tall pole that (I hope) squirrels cannot access. It's right outside the window of my home office so if the birds start coming I will have a prime view. If it's squirrels, I suppose I bang on the window to scare them off!
ReplyDeleteIt's starlings that are a pain here, they come and clear out the mealworm feeder very quickly
DeleteI can't think it's legal to raise prices on what's already on site at the garage. But I expect they have a confusing reason why they think it's just fine.
ReplyDeleteI guess they can charge what they like - or what they can get, as we all panic!
DeleteIf there's one thing we need in the world right now it is looking for the good wherever we can find it.!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely.
DeleteListing good things from each day is a wonderful idea that I need to start. Thanks for the reminder, Sue. Any help to lift my spirits and focus on the positive is needed right now.
ReplyDeleteYes positivity is definitely good now
DeleteListing our blessings each day is a great way to lift our spirits and make us happy in this crazy world right now.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Getting crazier by the day!
DeleteI'm glad you had some good weather this week! It's always good to look for things that bring you joy or make you smile. It especially helps when life gets you down. Wow - you did have a big jump in numbers at the exercise group. It would be nice if some of them continued.
ReplyDelete8 new ladies all at once was a shock! Hopefully they will stay and keep the group going
DeleteThank you for the onspiration.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome :-)
DeleteHello! Thank you for the Thankful reminder. I need to remember to do that. Have a cozy Sunday, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI hope to remember to be more grateful more often
DeleteThe prices of gas in the US is climbing steadily. I live very rural so cars are a must. We will need at least one more tank of heating oil to get us through to summer. It is a great idea to put a gratitude list together.
ReplyDeleteCathy
My 500 litres should be here today - will see me through summer- I hope
DeleteIm so glad your eye examination didn't show a problem. Perhaps another good thing to add to your list ! We need positive things to think about dont we 😳
ReplyDeleteAngie
Yes, I definitely should have added the no eye problems to my list.
