It took a while but the basil cuttings finally produced some roots.
I've put them into compost in pots in the greenhouse now - 7 had roots good enough - hopefully they'll get going to make decent plants. Fingers crossed.
Basil is one of my favourites, in salads as well as in bolognese. Even the smell is uplifting ! I sowed three pots of seeds which now need potting on. Anne in Lancs
Perhaps I'd do better raising basil if I had a greenhouse. It doesn't like our, quite exposed, garden. Sage, thyme, parsley, mint all cooperate, but basil just turns up its toes.
So lovely to have fresh basil on hand!!
ReplyDeleteI've tried it indoors through winter but it got attacked by greenfly so it's just a summer plant for me now.

I always used to grow from seed but this idea of cuttings from a supermarket plant is easy
DeleteYou've done well there, basil has always been a bit hit and miss getting roots for me.
ReplyDeleteIt took what seemed like an age but eventual success.
DeleteBasil is definitely in my top 5 favourite herbs

I love it too
DeleteI have bought a pot of basil and will put some in a vase for cuttings. Thank you for the reminder and your method 🍃
ReplyDeleteThis is so easy - if it works! and a supermarket pot is cheaper than a packet of seeds
DeleteThe roots are well developed which is a very good sign for a successful plant.
ReplyDeleteWhat herbs will you have in your herb garden?
I have - in pots- sage and rosemary. In the garden chives and last years Parsley still hanging on. |The basil will stay in the greenhouse.
DeleteLooks good.
ReplyDeleteWas going to recommend a couple of Sally Smith books but then checked your books read list and you’ve read them!
Yep! Been there done that - they are very good reading. Next one due Jan 2027
DeleteI will read it.
DeleteDo you read only hard copy or do you read electronic as well? I suspect only hard copy as I don’t recall you mentioning e-books
Patience is a virtue!
ReplyDeleteI am glad the roots finally appeared. I am hoping that all the basil I have potted up take when I actually get to plant them outside.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.

ReplyDeleteThat will be interesting to watch!
