You'd think that I knew there were two large aubergines on my one plant in the greenhouse but they grew without me really noticing. Probably due to rushing in and out of said greenhouse in the heat, with watering can and not really stopping to examine. Watering into a flower pot sunk between the two plants in each grow-bag is really quick and easy.
The flowers at the top of the plant aren't setting and I had noticed several flowers had dropped off but these two were down at the base, under some large leaves. I used them with an onion and two tins of tomatoes to make a big batch of aubergine and tomato sauce for using with pasta.
Grated cheese over the top when eating makes a quick and easy meal. A nice piece of home-made focaccia bread to mop up the excess juice goes well with it too.
That is a cool watering method. I never heard of it, but I bet that I could do this in my raised beds next year. It allows you to get water directly to the roots.
ReplyDeletePumpkins and squashes often surprise me. I found a very nice zucchini the other day. It must have sneaked in during the night.
Courgettes seem to double in size as soon as my back is turned!
DeleteI like your watering method. My Dad used to open a large bean can at both ends and sink one can next to each tomatoe plant for watering. Your aubergines look good and the home-made pasta sauce will be delicious.
ReplyDeleteWatering into the flower pot works so well - and no water wasted by run off. We used to sink flowerpots into the ground in the polytunnels next to the tomato plants when we grew 30+ plants every year
DeleteThat's a good idea. I grow my tomatoes and cucumbers in pots but the watering can be a bit of a pain . . . With Ed as a neighbour, I no longer need to grow courgettes . . .
