Yes, several weeks ago I chucked my money around..............Again!........and the photo's have been in drafts ever since.
(I've just found there are 59 posts with the Car Boot Bargains Label!)
Anyway, sometime in October I spent £5.50
So what did I get for my £5.50?
The apples were 50p - not the beautiful bowl - that's mine (second-hand from charity table top sale years ago).
2 more bits of Brio 10p...... The cross over tracks will be useful. Kilner jar £1 (thought I had plenty until I bought some different dried fruit and found they were all in use).
The candles are for the 2 hampers. I'll take them out of the box and wrap in a little bit of tissue - 50p.
Also bought with plans to make for the hampers was the soap making kit - that was £2.50.
Not sure why I bought the old jar, probably because I'd never seen one that size and shape before, I've got a few other old pots and jars and use them as vases - it was 50p
The birthday card and the clog were 20p each.
You might be wondering why the heck I've bought that very small pottery clog - there is method in my madness as it's ready to enter the Miniature Flower Arrangement at next years Bacton Show. Just have to think of where to put it so I don't lose it until next August.
I didn't try the soap kit for a few weeks until I got the jug below from a boot sale at the end of October for 50p,(Plus More Christmas wrapping for £1.50 and the new jute bag was £1)
The jug was bought specially to make the soap from the kit in the first photo but I wish I'd not bothered. The SMELL - YUCK and UGH. No way could I give the soap away - the whole thing went in the bin...........money wasted AGAIN!
But money saved at another boot sale. 5 Pairs Debenhams cotton knickers for £4 for me and a couple of little craft bits for 50p. They will go in the cupboard for when the grandchildren are older.
Back Tomorrow
Sue
Hi Sue, I think I've got a couple of jars like the stone coloured one in your photo. One the same colour and a beautiful black glossy one. They were from a posh French grainy mustard that comes with cork lid and sealing wax. My grandad was Swiss and bought things like this which we only ever enjoyed at his house as children. Then I treated us to some one Christmas. Then I found the black jar in M & S a couple of Christmases ago. Plastic lid and fake sealing wax I think. But mustard eaten they make very attractive flower vases.
ReplyDeleteThe jar is handy for a vase, I prefer them to glass vases
DeleteThere's some great buys there, Sue. A shame about the soap but you had to give it a go, didn't you. Now you know. Brio rail track is always a great find. I still have a great box of it from when my two were little and Alex loved it as well. I ought to get rid of it now but I can't face it. Too many memories.

The soap making kit had certainly gone off!
DeleteYou got some real bargains. Shame about the soap, but overall the good buys are around 95% I should think, which evens the occasional bad 'un out! I always buy Kilner jars when I see them too.
ReplyDeleteI think the soap making kit was older than it looked, supposed to be lavender but............
DeleteOh, that clog! How that takes me back to something I had completely forgotten about until this moment. When I was a child, I had a pair of those, attached to a little thread and with a pin to make a brooch. They were brought back from a foreign holiday (not common in those days) by a kind neighbour. Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteGood that it brought back memories for you
DeleteNow that Tom is unable to walk far and my b hip is bad we don't go to many car boots and I really miss the little things I used to pick up.

I would miss going so much - the highlight of my week!
DeleteAll the things you find at car boot sales! You must have been a squirrel in a previous life.
ReplyDeleteMaybe. Although I don't hoard stuff......except books!
DeleteThe Brio crossover was a bargain, they are so expensive to purchase new.
ReplyDeleteI've collected so much Brio secondhand over the years since grandchildren were born and made bundles for Jacob and Florence so far and still have enough for Willow.
DeleteShame about the soap. I love the clog idea for the miniature flower entry. I hope you don't lose it because I'm looking forward to seeing your entry. xx
ReplyDeleteHomemade soap would gave been a nice touch, shameful was off. As you say older than it looked.
ReplyDeleteI never go to such sales....

Oh, they're candles, I thought they were Christmas tree decs! Your apple bowl is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou always amaze me with your finds Sue - I never see anything.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I too go to thrifts and sales, and sometimes get burned when I buy something that turns out to not be such a good idea. But in the end, I know I save a lot of money by thrifting. That miniature clog is sweet!
