Well Strictly fans, it's all over for another year. I wasn't bothered who won really but decided after the dances that Kelvin and Oti were best, so was pleased they lifted the trophy. Now I'll have to go back to watching Look East instead of Takes Two............ Dull, Dull, Dull!
Thought I'd better try a small journey for my first time driving after hurting my knee so I went down to the village hall to cast my vote on Thursday, not that my vote makes much difference as most bits of Suffolk have been blue conservative for a Very long time.
As the knee seemed OK - I went a bit further to the Community shop in the next village to pick up a copy of the Double Issue Festive Radio Times. I can't imagine Christmas without it and enjoy browsing through looking for something interesting.
AND it shouldn't fall apart this year..........no staples.
There is often a free children's book advertised in the Christmas Radio Times. This year it's The Tiger Who Came to Tea Fun Activity book. BUT it's only free if you happen to live near a Ryman store. My nearest is upstairs in The Sailmaker's centre in Ipswich - at least I think it's still there, you never know with Ipswich shops.
I've had a quick look in the Radio Times and so far have highlighted
Sat 21st Show jumping From Olympia
Celebrity mastermind ......on i player because clashes with
Agatha and The truth of Murder
Robbie Williams in Concert. - (on late for me so I'll watch on iplayer next day)
Sun 22nd . Countryfile

Tues 24th A Merry Tudor Christmas

Thanks for commiserations yesterday, a week after the injury the knee is tons better and won't get mentioned again!......
The company who run the physio service in Suffolk on behalf of NHS are brilliant and as soon as I'd referred myself online they emailed back with exercises to help and I just need to ring and make an appointment. I think I'll only need to go as far as Eye..... 5 miles....handy.
Back Tomorrow
Sue
I shall have to find a Rymans so I can get the book for Rosie. They do seem few and far between these days...
ReplyDeleteI looked on line and there is one in Ipswich. Not sure I shall bother as it would cost me more in diesel and parking than the cover price!
DeleteAnd to complicate things, not all Rymans are the same, i.e. don't sell the same stuff. The best one in Norwich closed leaving only the posher one. I found the nearest 'good' one is in Cambridge now that still sells what I call old fashioned stationery. I've never bought a Christmas Radio Times relying on my newspapers for my tv guide.
ReplyDeleteI guess all the programmes are in the newspaper
DeleteThat's a VERY speedy response, fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI've just treated myself to the Christmas Radio Times too. Loads and loads to read and to watch. Like you, my recorder will be working overtime.
xx
I'll use the catch up channels - haven't learned how to record yet!
DeleteI was shocked last year to learn that the Carols from King's shown on television is not, as I'd always supposed, the same as the service which is on the radio (live) at three, but pre-recorded some time before. Put me right off it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not bothered by that
DeleteI loved Agatha and the truth of murder when it was on last year. The writers twist together truths of her life and disappearance with a murder. As usual repeats!
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's only a repeat if you've seen it before!
Deletemy TV recording thing works overtime at Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI shall use the catch up channels
DeleteThanks for the Christmas listings - sounds rather like what I will choose. I too never miss Carols from King's - sets the tone for Christmas for me.
ReplyDeletecarols from Kings is the start of Christmas for me
DeleteI always bought the Radio (BBC) and TV (ITV) Times every Christmas, but stopped in the 1990s as cash was a bit tight and the TV programmes were always in the papers.
ReplyDeleteWe don't watch TV at all on Christmas Day, but play board games instead nor do we record many things now, just our usual daily quizzes and a few other things we like.
The things I always buy prior to Christmas is next years calendar and my diary. They are definite must haves.
I don't have a paper. My 2020 diary is ready for filling in after Christmas
DeleteI was so disappointed with the Radio Times last Christmas {the only time I buy it now} that I won't bother this year. I shall buy a small box of chocolate instead. Glad to hear your knee is improving, may it continue to do so. Yes, back to finding something else at 6:30 weeknights now! Worthy winners, but a shame Anton didn't win as maybe he'd retire if he did.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be quite a lot of reading in the RT this year, it's very fat
DeleteWe were please by the absence of staples too. With a magazine that thick, out fingers will be all better for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased to hear my RT is not the only one that used to fall apart because the staples were never really big enough for the number of pages
DeleteI buy the Radio Times every week, and hate the staples that always seem 'out to get you'. It was a relief to see that for the first time the Christmas double issue is bound like a proper magazine and no staples.
ReplyDeleteI must say I have circled a lot more programmes for watching than you have highlighted. I usually record everything we watch on either the Freeview or the Freesat boxes. That way we can whizz forward through adverts or simply watch things when we are in the mood for sitting down and enjoying them.
Unfortunately, the nearest Rymans to me is almost 40 miles away so I think unless I'm passing Liverpool it would be cheaper to buy the 'free' book if I wanted it!!
Yes, we must have watched The Good Life Christmas episode at least 100 times too :-)
I only got as far as Christmas eve with the circling - there will be more.....
DeleteIt took me about four days to get through all the magazine with my circling … and I can't do the bloody crossword which is annoying. I usually manage all but one or two answers … this time I've only got three answers done :-(
DeleteThe magazine looks very festive and you seem to have found numerous things to watch. I hope you enjoy them all.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you
DeleteSoooo glad your knee is getting better!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYesssss!!!!!!
🎄🌲🎄🌲🎄
Me too!
DeleteI'm happy to hear your knee is improving and you are working out your physio appointment. It looks like you will have lots of good holiday shows to watch. I've always loved the Christmas programs.
ReplyDeleteWhy not mention the condition of your knee again? Doesn't it affect what you can do? And isn't part of your ongoing life, which your readers find fascinating? "The Radio Times" - that brings back memories, but surely most people will look on the web? Roderick
ReplyDeleteIs your "A Christmas Carol" the one with Guy Pearce and Andy Serkis? Fox TV has been running ads for it. Might take a peek at it on demand. I am rewatching series 3 of The Crown. Tobias Menzies is wonderful as the DoE. Don't like the casting of Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. Doesn't seem a good fit.
ReplyDeleteYes that's the one.
DeleteNever watched The Crown - doesn't appeal at all
Must remember the showjumping...usually end up missing it for one reason or another. x
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit like Carols from Kings - part of Christmas
