I've gradually been using up my stash of card making materials . I just don't enjoy it anymore and life's too short!
Last week I got the few remaining sheets of Christmas 3D Decoupage sheets and card blanks out onto the table to turn into cards for this year....I've got enough that I bought from charity shops in the January sales in the drawer already, but the cards made will mean I don't need to buy many in 2025 sales.

There are some birthday decoupage sheets that needed using too. That's a job for today after I've walked up the road for tree photos (weather permitting) and made some sort of cakes for the weekend.

I'm making up a load of cards to donate to the hospice shop. I don't send many so might as well give them where they can help raise funds.

DeleteI was looking for the left over Christmas cards I put away tidily last year. Of course, I cannot find them but worry not, come January they will be sure to turn up!
ReplyDeleteI found some decoupage sheets I bought when the children were little - I can even remember buying them in the antiques place at Dedham. Ah well, I can use them for Rosie now perhaps!
I've got a Christmas drawer in a chest of drawers for Christmas bits.

I've stopped using my card stock, I gave loads to our local junior school, I have kept some as Molly my granddaughter is into craft.

DeleteI used to do paper crafting many years ago and I've still got a fair amount of stuff from then so I'm thinking of making a scrapbook of Jack's first year. It's a long time since I made a card though, I got back into knitting after many years and learnt to crochet too and that just took over. I always enjoy receiving hand made cards, they seem more personal.

DeleteYou lasted longer than me with making cards. I sold all all my stash of card making equipment a few years ago, the relief was immense. Apart from anything else, a lot of the thicker ones were starting to cost me a large letter stamp and that got expensive to send. Cardmaking is not a cheap hobby these days is it.

DeleteI have one friend left who still makes cards, hand stitched designs, and it's a thrill to receive one. But the postage cost has gone up, and now her postal service is on strike, so I may not be lucky this year. But I keep the ones she's made even when I recycle commercial cards. Your recipients are probably so happy to receive your cards.

DeleteI don’t make them any more. Since I’ve been in my 80s I just don’t have the energy that I used to have. (I do get out and about with my friends though - mostly much younger than me, but I find age makes no difference when we’re seeing interesting things or having a laugh together!)
Sounds like a few of us have enjoyed card making in the past but for various reasons have moved on from it. I agree totally with Sue about the cost of postage - it's definitely a big factor in the decline of my card making efforts, it's really getting prohibitive. Also, ( going to sound a bit like a grinch here!) occasionally I'll get some lovely feedback about a homemade card but most of the time not even acknowledged 🙄😉😁 . I'll do the same as you and finish off my stocks then consign it to history.

I used to do all sorts of card crafts but I'll hang onto the cross stitch stuff for now.
DeleteIf I make something nice for the weekend it stops me being tempted by cakes at the Christmas Fayres!
It seems every year fewer cards are being sent. I believe costs are just getting very high and most choose not to spend on cards.

ReplyDeleteI always thought to try card making, but I really never had the time. I retired...and amazingly enough, I still don't have the time! Your cards are really cute though. Do you do any stamping?
ReplyDeleteReally lovely cards. I haven't done any in a while though it is something I enjoy doing. I really need to sort out the craft room. Sigh. Next year I am planning on having a use it or lose it year on a lot of things.
