Advent 2024 and Christmas Music

I came across this Christmas song somewhere. Each year there are new songs and hymns written for Christmas, some catch on to be replayed every year for ever and others disappear.

On Radio 2 last week Vernon Kay played a new piece of Christmas pop music but it wasn't very good, he said he wouldn't be playing it again!....not sure he gets a choice. I didn't hear it so have no idea how bad it was or even who it was by - it will remain a mystery.

I think this is a bit of the new Michael Bublé single - he has a Christmas album every year.

I still like this best

I wrote about how this song came about on a post last year HERE

The Strictly 2024 final was a really good ending to a very good series. I wasn't surprised that Chris and Diane won as they had been getting the most votes on the Strictly Spoiler website all season and how wrong I was 3 months ago in saying that a blind person doing the series was a crazy idea!

  1. I really like the first one. I enjoy listening to Celtic Christmas Music. It just invokes the feelings of the season and the weather around me. The third one just makes me want to cry. Sigh.

  3. I was so pleased that Chris and Diane won Strictly too, such bravery on Chris's part, and such skill as a teacher on Diane's part (and Amy's too).

  4. I am sorry not to have left a comment for so long or posted on my blog. I have been very ill and only now feel more able to use a keyboard - albeit on a phone! But I have been reading and it helps to see me through. Today I am posting similar comments on many favourite blogs I have read. From a hospital in France…

  5. Chris Rea's Driving Home is my favourite also, along with Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby.
So thrilled Chris and Diane won, I've enjoyed his humour {especially when directed at Craig} and admired his courage in all he took on. It also shows what an amazing person and teacher Diane is too.

    1. Teaching someone to dance who couldn't watch to see how to do it is an amazing achievement

  6. I have a very mixed Christmas list on Alexa, she shuffles the playlist most days for me, you certainly can't beat the older pop classics, though someone did say recently he has been driving home since 1988, that's almost 40 years.

  7. Really enjoyed Strictly last night and Chris seemed genuinely surprised to win. Dianne is a wonderful teacher and even Craig’s little poem seemed heartfelt. Catriona

  8. It was interesting to reread the story of how Chris Rea's song was written.

  9. I hadn't heard any of those songs. My favorite song memory is of my Dad singing "O Holy Night" each year while my sister played the piano for him. Now my youngest son will do the song with my sister and it is always a special moment for us.

    1. How lovely to have musical memories like that - no one in my family was at all musical!

  10. I wonder why he didn't like his song? Did he say?

I recently found the Wexford Carol, which is my current favorite. (See if you can find it with Alison Krause and Yo-Yo Ma.) I was surprised to read that it is Ireland's oldest Christmas carol, surviving from the 12th century.

  11. I think Chris and Dianne did amazingly well, I don't watch Strictly but I did watch all of their dances on YouTube. I'm so sad that my Mum didn't get to see any of this years Strictly, it was always the highlight of her year and she would have loved Chris' achievement.
