Two Books and a Scoop.........

.....were my car boot sale finds on Saturday.

Unusual to find two books at a boot sale that look interesting.

I dithered over the 'Back of Beyond' as the man was insistent on wanting £2 -  hate paying that much! I wasn't 100% sure that I'd not read it but knew there was an interesting, old  book about trees by this author on my shelves and thought that on Amazon for 'Back of Beyond' it would be more than £2 for sure.
Thank goodness it wasn't listed in my book of books read and would be between £5 and £22 on Amazon so £2 was OK after all.

The other book was in a house clearance box so just 50p and is also about someone who bought an old cottage but this one is in Australia - that's a bit different.

The 50p scoop is for the greenhouse for compost - had one just like this but it split last year, which I only remembered after spending ages looking for it a few weeks ago.

    1. Hopefully one or the other will be readable

  2. Hardback books are usually £2 in a charity shop these days, so the man was charging the right price

    1. It's a paperback but still I don't like paying that much at a boot sale

  3. Three really good purchases there. We have a few scoops like that, left over from our pig and chicken feed days, they come in really useful for compost.

    1. I think the old scoop lived in the light of the greenhouse for too long and fell apart

  4. Nice finds!
I could use a scoop like that for my 50 lb. bag of dog food.
Our weather is finally warm and historically this is when people would have yard sales (all kinds of items on the front lawn and everything is for sale). The last few years I've seen no yard sales. They were popular.

  7. Great finds at the car boot sales this time. The scoop looks very useful-I use an old plastic jug but that is a much better shape. Catriona

    1. I shouldn't have left the old one in the greenhouse for three years in the light!

  8. The 50p scoop was a good find, we like to use one for compost too. The metal scoops are quite a bit more expensive.

    Hello from New Zealand.
Thanks for the book recommendation about The Back of Beyond. I have borrowed the book from our local library and I am enjoying reading it.
A River Rules My Life by Mona Anderson is a similar book but set in the 1930s on a high country sheep station in the South Island.
We can all admire the hard work and fortitude of isolated farming families.
