Vases All Packed................

.................and then I was given a bunch of flowers.

The only thing I had still in the cupboard to put them in was a water jug. So I'll need to give it a really good clean later.

The flowers, a card and a box of chocolates were a surprise gift from the Keep Moving Exercise Group. I'd ended up doing almost everything (while a few just got out their own chair and then later sat waiting for coffee!) and as I was moving I decided to give up now rather than later. I hope it will keep going but after 4 years of hardly missing a week and too much responsibility, I'd had enough. I emailed the Village Hall treasurer to say I'd left all information about paying etc but not sure who would be taking over.

(I'm putting the chocolates into the 'being prepared' food box for winter emergency's! Much more appealing than cold baked beans!)

On Saturday I had an email from the Village Hall Chairman asking for a contact number for who was doing the money now as they'd received no payment for last weeks Keep Moving Group. Every week for nearly four years I'd been dropping the money into the treasurer on my way home but it seems that  they didn't get organised to do this after all!

I explained it's no longer anything to do with me!

  1. Putting chocolate into the "being prepared" bix sounds a very good idea to me!

  3. I've just resigned as head of our condo association and I fear the same thing will happen with all the administrative and legally required tasks. As long as they issue my resale certificate so I can sell my unit; the rest doesn't matter to me any more. I'n leaving clear instructions on how to do it, but I'm prepared to call and hound them for it if I have to! If one person has been taking care of everything for years, it's almost inevitable hiccups will arise when they leave.

    1. The things that need doing at the Exercise group weren't as onerous as anything legal etc - just things like buying milk, filling kettles and paying for the hall hire etc - so they ought to be able to manage!

  4. Choccies definitely better than cold baked beans! I bet you won't be surprised if the exercise group folds now, as not many people want to step up and run things.

    1. I hope it doesn't fold, there are more than a dozen people going fairly regularly so in theory plenty to do everything if they get organised.

  5. It is sad when a group is unwilling to take any responsibility and leaves it all to just one person. And ironic that the Keep Moving group cannot cope because you Keep Moving to a new home!!

    1. A cousin who hadn't read my blog recently was astonished I was moving again, even with her husband being a URC Minister, before retirement, they didn't move as often as I have!

  6. It is interesting how may groups fold when the one person who keeps it going is no longer available. On the whole folk tend to just sit back and rely on others....
Nice flowers though and they do look good in the water jug :)

    1. I do hope the group will keep going, but the Village Hall committee will soon get fed up if they don't organise the weekly hall hire fee paying!

  7. It's an entirely different situation, but I was on a committee whee the chair was SO precise and fearsome that when she wanted to step down no-one dared take it on, especially as she was going to stay as a committee member. I did dare in the end... Eventually everyone became so much older that just one or two people were doing everything (me for one!) so I left.

    1. The jobs were spread around several people to start with, but as I went more regularly than some people I seemed to do end up doing everything when others dropped out.
A few weeks ago when I was feeling unwell and didn't go they realised at coffee time there was no milk as I wasn't there!

    1. They are Milk Tray, not a favourite but in an emergency would suddenly become very edible!

  9. Your house move sounds very advanced - have you exchanged or agreed dates ? I spoke to an Estate Agent about my home - he was phoning several times a day to get me to “ sign up”
and being quite aggressive . I guess that’s the nature of their business but …..

    1. No dates yet but as it's just me to do all the packing I always start as soon as I can with all the things I know I won't need before moving.

How rude to phone so often. I'd definitely Not be selling through his agency!

  10. I would have to have those chocolates well hidden in our place because they would be singing their siren song to us 😅
Committees, it’s always the same few people that keep things going, in your case, just you by the sound of it.
The flowers look nice in the jug

  12. The flowers and chocolates are a very nice gift. You will certainly be missed. You kept the group going for a long time.
You are preparing to move and getting organized to do so will make things go smoothly. That's the ideal!

  13. It's always the way isn't it, pack the vases and flowers arrive, or pack the books and you just HAVE to buy half a dozen new ones. ;-)

I think I will add some chocolate, crisps and wine to my emergency stash, as you say they are so much better than cold baked beans.

  14. My question got answered above about your move date. But here's another one: bigger or smaller house and property?

  15. sometimes it's so nice to give up something like that! Someone else's problem! You're wise to start now on your giving away.

  16. Our u3a folded at the summer after 16 years as no one would take on the office bearer roles. A group have now got together and meet on the same day without all the paperwork. Some of us are less than pleased as they could have stepped up and saved the original group. The person now running it doesn’t like rules so it will be fine until someone has an accident and there’s no insurance! Catriona

  17. What a lovely gift from the exercise group. Chocolates and flowers are always winners with me. And now the group is not your responsibility any longer!

  20. They will need to "Get moving" now, won't they!! It is disappointing when al the tasks are left to one willing person, but exiting has at least made them recognise how grateful they were to you, and hopefully they'll get it together now. The flowers are gorgeous, and a was is all theet'll be needed before you drink from that vase/jug again.
