When I saw this at the car boot sale, amongst a ton of house clearance boxes , I picked it up and asked how much?
"50p" the bloke said..............
Then I turned it over to see what date it had......
It's 22 years old!! Someone had this in their cupboard for 22 years unopened!
I won't be eating the jam or marmalade but the jars are always handy and the little house jam pot and spoon is rather cute.
The things I waste money on to fill a blog post!

What intrigues me is that the jam pot appears relatively large compared to the two jars. If you emptied the Marmalade into it, it would barely cover the bottom! I suppose it is a "Gift Set" and doesn't have to make sense. I do find those little pots very useful though. And I've also got a small China spoon (from a boot fair) which I use when I am serving clotted cream with scones.

22 years old! My 'currently house buying' daughter was only 1, haha! Obviously the person who had it originally never did a spring clean :D

DeleteI think this must come under the category of "unwanted gift"!! At least you will put the jars to good use (those wee ones are good for those expensive special makes in the preserves line for Christmas presents). Cottage will dress your mantel shelf I am sure. . .
ReplyDeleteI can get new lids for the jars from the packaging place so they might be useful and the cottage is quite sweet in a kitsch kind of way
DeleteIt could have come from my MIL's cupboard - we used to find out of date things in there! She once offered DH a can of larger it was the same about 20 years out of date.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post :) I can imagine that jam making a quick exit out of the house once you opened it! My MIL used to keep things like that in her cupboard as she would never throw anything away. I think during the Depression years these women learnt to hang onto everything.

ReplyDeleteI would have bought that to blog about too. It's a shame the jam has gone off, my oldest homemade edible jam was labelled 2010, yes I ate it about a month ago … but even I wouldn't have tasted any that was 22 years old :-)
