.........................just for a fun blog post.
When I saw this at the car boot sale, amongst a ton of house clearance boxes , I picked it up and asked how much?
"50p" the bloke said..............
Then I turned it over to see what date it had......
It's 22 years old!! Someone had this in their cupboard for 22 years unopened!
I won't be eating the jam or marmalade but the jars are always handy and the little house jam pot and spoon is rather cute.
The things I waste money on to fill a blog post!
Back Tomorrow

What intrigues me is that the jam pot appears relatively large compared to the two jars. If you emptied the Marmalade into it, it would barely cover the bottom! I suppose it is a "Gift Set" and doesn't have to make sense. I do find those little pots very useful though. And I've also got a small China spoon (from a boot fair) which I use when I am serving clotted cream with scones.
ReplyDeleteI now know what 22 year old jam and marmalade look like!
DeleteThe house makes a nice little addition to the dresser - and that's a good idea for the spoon
22 years old! My 'currently house buying' daughter was only 1, haha! Obviously the person who had it originally never did a spring clean :D
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame they didn't eat it all those years ago - certainly NOT edible now!
DeleteThis post put a smile on my face. Keep on posting.
ReplyDeleteI will
DeleteHow funny! Cute little jam pot though.
ReplyDeleteI thought it would make a fun blog post and it did!
DeleteI fully understand such a present remaining in the cupboard for 22 years.
ReplyDeleteHa! surely you wouldn't have wasted the marmalade and jam?
DeleteI think this must come under the category of "unwanted gift"!! At least you will put the jars to good use (those wee ones are good for those expensive special makes in the preserves line for Christmas presents). Cottage will dress your mantel shelf I am sure. . .
ReplyDeleteI can get new lids for the jars from the packaging place so they might be useful and the cottage is quite sweet in a kitsch kind of way
DeleteIt could have come from my MIL's cupboard - we used to find out of date things in there! She once offered DH a can of larger it was the same about 20 years out of date.
ReplyDeleteMy mum always had out of date crisps to offer the children!
DeleteI bet there is at least a 50% chance that the contents are still perfectly edible.
ReplyDeleteNo! definitely NOT, they had gone a very strange colour and smelled like vinegar
DeleteIt is really cute! Have you opened the jars?
ReplyDeleteContents of jars added to compost!
DeleteLove the little house pot, but like you I wouldn't be eating the contents of the jars.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The contents were a very strange colour
DeleteYikes! I thought I hung onto things for too long lol. Pretty little set.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage is quite cute, but the preserves are in the compost bucket
Delete1997!!!!!! Oh mercy! That person should have looked on the net, to see, how much a collector would pay for it!!! -smile- Seems there is someone, who collects just about any item.
ReplyDelete🍁🔥🍁
Can't imagine anyone wanting it to keep in a collection
DeleteI'd have bought it to for that price! I put old jams and jellies out for the honeybees, so it doesn't go entirely to waste.
ReplyDeleteToo cold and wet here at the moment for bees
DeleteNo the jam was definitely not OK!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post :) I can imagine that jam making a quick exit out of the house once you opened it! My MIL used to keep things like that in her cupboard as she would never throw anything away. I think during the Depression years these women learnt to hang onto everything.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that ceramic house pot and spoon.. what a bargain!
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I laughed all the way through your post AND the comments. Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI would have bought that to blog about too. It's a shame the jam has gone off, my oldest homemade edible jam was labelled 2010, yes I ate it about a month ago … but even I wouldn't have tasted any that was 22 years old :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only mad person in blogland!
DeleteThis blog has made me smile.
