Because I spotted this
Wooden board games in a storage chest with all the bits in a drawer in the bottom. "It's got some bits missing" the lady said. But as it was priced at £4.99 I thought I'd risk it, especially as I've got counters and dice at home - enough for snakes and ladders and ludo which will probably be the favourites to play with the grandchildren when they get a bit older. It's also got draughts and chess and some other boards marked out for games that I've never played like Nine Men's Morris.

ReplyDeleteMany charity shops are still shut here too and some have shut down forever, but last time I went to the bank I noticed a sign saying when the Oxfam shop was opening - which was handy.

DeleteFunnily enough I have one of these and is played with by my grand-daughters, mainly the eldest as the youngest is too young, although she gets the ludo shapes out to play with.
ReplyDeleteThe supermarket I worked for started selling items from a company called Tchaibo (Scandinavian I think) and there were lots of different things, this set of games being one. As it's solid wood it's very heavy and I was glad to get home with it even though I didn't live far from the supermarket. I believe I paid between £5-£7 for it, so Bovey Belle did well selling hers for £20, although I can understand that as it is solid wood.
Was that a Somerfield? I seem to remember the one in Saxmundham losing part of it's food space for some odd things
DeleteYes, Sue it was. We only lost a short aisle to Tchiabo and a lot of the things were kitchen items or home related. But we lost a lot more aisles to Peacocks (clothing)a bit later. Never was the same after that.

My grandmother taught me to play cribbage at a very young age and made me count and add all the scores. That board with its little pegs is a very fond memory of her. I hope your find becomes one of your grandchildrens' fond memories of you.
