Haven't had any flowers in for a couple of weeks and these are all there were this week. The Alstromeria which ought to be flowering well have hardly a bud between them.
I bought red onions, red peppers and red chili peppers to use with my tomatoes to make my Red Hot Relish. There were some Huge tomatoes all at once that needed using quickly.
And put a ton of climbing beans into the freezer
This week I'm grateful for
- Lots more puzzle pages from the local paper collected from Col's sister to keep the old brain working
- A socially distanced visit from my sister and BiL
- More butterfly spotting. I THINK this is a very faded Small Tortoiseshell, as it has blue spots on the edge but the white bits should be yellower.
Will it be yet another wet Sunday morning to make the car-boot sale a wash-out again? I hope not.
Have a good weekend whatever you are doing, I might treat myself to a Chinese takeaway.
Back Monday
Sue
It is funny how butterflies become old and washed out, a brief season in the sun and then it is on to the next generation. I can just imagine you on your ride on mower, there must be some satisfaction not having to push.
ReplyDeleteI am sure a cordless mower must make a huge difference, and am thinking about getting one myself. Relish looks good.
ReplyDeleteI miss my paper in Waitrose that I use to get each Saturday with all the puzzles in and I only have two pages left in my Sudoku book (I don't like it on the computer). Hope the weather stays nice on Sunday so you can go to the car boot. I think if the weather is okay I am going to a National Trust garden wth my daughter on Sunday. Enjoy your weekend Sue and everyone. Hazel c uk 🌈🌈🌈
ReplyDeleteHazel, not sure what paper you used to get but if you are a library member you might have access to newspapers electronically through your library card.
DeleteI particularly enjoy the cryptic crossword in the Canadian National Post newspaper. You also get access to all types of magazines.
I don't envy you having so much grass to mow. I know it looks nice when done, but during summer it seems to always need to be getting cut.
ReplyDeleteI keep my very old brain going with all the Times puzzles Sue - I need to do something to keep it working.
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a ride on mower where we used to live many years ago...doing the old orchard was a little hairraising at times...literally, as some of the branches were very low so you had to duck at just the right time...many times I left a little hair attached to a twig! Very jealous of your produce...so far just one rather sad little tomato has made it into the kitchen...Young Henry relieved us of a truss of green tomatoes whilst 'helping'! x
ReplyDeleteWe've not got a ride on mower at home in Wales but Alan has got the grass cutting tractor attachment for his small John Deere to use in the paddock and end field, unfortunately it doesn't fit through any of the gaps near the house so there is A LOT of mowing that has to be done with the petrol mower. One job we will neither of us miss when we move from here.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to treat myself to a battery powered mower for my new garden, I'm bloody dangerous with the Flymo at the caravan.
Hi Sue. Is the recipe for your red hot relish on the blog anywhere?
ReplyDeleteYes it's on the separate recipe page under the header photo. It's called Red Hot and Sweet Relish. It's a long way down to scroll
DeleteBeautiful tomatoes.
ReplyDeletexx
Beautiful flowers. I love seeing butterflies though I haven't seen too many around.
ReplyDeleteOur Alsto hardly produced anything either this year. Weather do you think?
ReplyDeleteHaven't had to cut my grass in weeks, it is quite brown! Also have only had one small cherry tomato so far so am quite jealous of your deluge. Nothing better than a home grown tomato!
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly photos you’ve been posting this week are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteF might try your relish recipe. Do you find it tough on your own eating all the wonderful preserves? F says we've still got shelves full from previous years and she loves making preserves but who is going to eat them? She's tried to limit it to marmalade since we've lived here. It gets 'exported' to England once a year when Mr B returns with the van.
ReplyDeleteI love making preserves too and tend to give most away!
DeleteHello what is the name of those flowers. Found some in a meadow today
