I was chatting to the window cleaner at the front door yesterday morning and we were saying how mild the weather was for 7 weeks before the new year.
I said I'd got really hot laying a few paving slabs earlier and he gave me a puzzled look "laying paving slabs?" I said they're only small paving slabs!
Just stepping stones between the patio and the greenhouse so when I go out to open and shut the greenhouse door next year I won't get wet feet.
I've sunk them into the grass so the mower will go over the top.

Excellent way to use the slabs - good for you. Even small ones are very heavy though, aren't they?

DeleteExcellent straight line there. Having finished my slab laying this week I agree with you. It's hot, hard, heavy work (but so satisfying, especially when we can reuse materials)

DeleteThat's a good idea. We have to walk on the grass to get to the greenhouse and, as you say, we get wet feet doing so. The weather is very mild at the moment but the leaves are dropping from the trees fast now.

My OH still not keen on the idea of a greenhouse because we have to pay someone to put concrete down AND pay for someone to assemble said greenhouse, so it doesn't look like I'll get one.
Well I think your idea is a good one! I go outside with bare feet in crocs so don't like to get too wet.
DeleteWe have some quite big ones across the lawn. Trouble is they slowly sink (or the lawn slowly rises, I'm not sure which), so after a year or two the grass encroaches from the sides and the stepable area gets smaller. Takes quite a lot of exertion to cut back the grass, and even more to lift them up to put extra soil under.

DeleteThose slabs look just right! Good for you! We have lots of leaves in the back yard now but I am waiting on the rest to fall so we don't have to be raking again and again! We might get snow flurries this weekend!?!

DeleteI like your stepping stone slab pathway to the greenhouse. I enjoy garden projects too and especially like it when something can be easily re-used and not only looks good but works well too. I'm clearing leaves from my gardens using my new battery powered leaf blower and it is working very well.

ReplyDeleteIf I liked socks and wellies it would be OK but I'm nearly always outside with bare feet in crocs although I did put my wellies on for doing the slabs just in case I dropped one!
DeleteYou did a great job making the path. Even the smaller stones can be heavy! You will appreciate that path when it's wet!
