Exercise group is at a village hall just a few minutes away from the new butchers/deli that's opened in a unit at our hardware/garden/ allsorts place. Makes it simple to pop there for trying their different cheeses.
This is what I found out about the most recent test purchase
Montagnolo Affine is a blue, creamy soft cheese made in the Allgau region of Germany by Kaserei Chamignon . It has a natural grey crust and is marbled with blue veins. Aged at a low temperature it matures slowly and has an aromatic and spicy flavour. It won the supreme champion award at the 2013 International Cheese Awards
Can't say I noticed any spicy flavour but it was extremely delicious.

I do love 'blue' soft cheese.
ReplyDeleteThis one was very good, nicer than some blue hard cheeses
DeleteIt sounds delicious. xx
ReplyDeleteVery!
DeleteAldi has great blues in the "Specially Selected" range. I love the Beacon Blue Goat.
ReplyDeleteNo that's one I've not tried - I shall investigate later in the week
DeleteI love a good cheese - more than exercise groups anyway!
ReplyDeleteExercise group isn't too energetic but a good half hour.
DeleteWe tried and enjoyed 'Black Bomber' - it's very moreish, so will probably try this one. It's readily available. I'm not so keen on blue cheese as others in my family - the slightly ammoniac smell puts me off after a while.
ReplyDeleteNext to try is the one mentioned above - Aldi Blue goats cheese
DeleteI see ‘blue’ in the cheese so you won’t see it here 😊.
ReplyDeleteWell matured I like - smelly blue no thank you. Good job we all have different tastes, keeps the cheese makers occupied
There are many more cheeses available from smaller producers than a few years ago - makes life interesting
DeleteThe cheese looks delicious
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
It's a good one, better than a local soft blue I tried which was fairly tasteless
DeleteYour new shop sounds really good. Blue cheese is very distinct. I'm not a fan. That said, I always have it on-hand because a friend loves it and it is nice on a platter with other cheeses and crusty bread and crackers.
ReplyDeleteLots of people aren't fond of blue cheeses - the mould might be off putting!
DeleteI love blue cheese - well, pretty much any cheese actually. Not heard of this one, I'll have to look out for it.
ReplyDeleteThere have only been one or two that I've tried that have been disappointing - usually because they are tasteless - the stronger the better for me
DeleteOur local Kroger store delicatessen dept. drops their older stock of cheese into a discount bin back in the dairy dept. at half price. I have found fabulous European blues and creamy Camembert and Brie for half price which means I can buy cheese I normally would not be able to afford. Goat cheese of any kind is not for me, as having been raised on a farm, it smells too much like "goat" for me.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I was able to contact Debby through her profile email if you are so interested.
DeleteI love blue cheese but haven't had it in ages. I might have to get some soon!
ReplyDeleteIt never occurred to me until I read this: I have never just eaten a chunk of bleu cheese on its own. It's always been a part of something else, crumbled over salad, mostly. I think that I should give it a try.
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteThis one we like very much, even better than Cambozola ! Emma, Northamptonshire
ReplyDeleteNot sure I have met a cheese I didn’t like - as long as it isn’t a bland plastic American cheese! Though, to be fair, US cheese has improved in the past.
ReplyDeleteThe specially select Gouda at Lidl is also worth a try
My grandmother ate blue cheese and I couldn't stand it - now I am a grandmother myself and I really enjoy it! This one sounds rather yummy :)
ReplyDeleteOoh-I’d like that one! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI love cheese -- a cheese tasting is a great idea!
