The mobile library comes round every four weeks, so twice a year, there are two visits in a month.
Last week I spent all week praying that nothing would go wrong with the mobile library or the driver as there were 17 books waiting for me!
Thankfully all was well and these are what I collected (plus three books for the Summer part of Reading the Seasons challenge which will be on a later post and one for the Spring part - post about this tomorrow)
The fiction are mainly crime fiction with a couple of Donna Leons that I'd not read, and new books by Alys Clare, Anthony Horowitz, Rory Clements and Elly Griffiths. The Large Print book is an old book by Catherine Aird. Murder by the Seaside is short stories and a three in one book of the only Ngaio Marsh stories I've not read.
I had better read the Anthony Horowitz first as there are 184 people on the waiting list! (although there are 37 copies in the county, I still like to put books with long lists back into circulation ASAP)
4 weeks ago I brought home these. I read most but couldn't finish the Rachel Hore book as it made me cry too much and happy tears are likely to change to sad anytime nowadays. The books that I did finish are listed on the separate Books Read 2024 page

ReplyDeleteI wish we had a mobile library van, public transport or even bottle banks. They only seem to serve the towns and villages in rural Ireland.

DeleteBottle bank at the pub - grotty pub but within walking distance. First time I've been within walking distance
Bus service is a couple each day but not going to the local town and once a week to the local town.
Better than many other places!

DeleteI don't know how in the world you find time to read so many books in one month. Granted, the books I choose often are larger volumes, but still, I would do well to read two or possibly three in one month. I have only three outside activities, chair yoga once a week, a women's social club one evening a month, and garden club luncheon/meeting once a month, so it isn't' like I am gone all the time. I am not a big tv viewer anymore, just some news analysis programs in the afternoon and one. daily soap opera I am addicted to. So where did all my reading time go?

DeleteI read very fast, no TV etc. I often read a book every day, have done so since I taught myself to read by age 4. My brother is same.
DeleteI recently finished Kristin Hannah's book "The Women" which I thought was very good but also very sad. I will have to look into more of her books...

DeleteMobile libraries are a great community service aren't they, we don't get one here, 6 miles away from town, which is ok while I still drive.......
ReplyDeleteDuring lockdown my dear old mum used to get books delivered to her door, chosen for her by the mobile library staff - a really good service.

Suffolk also has a Home Library Service where volunteers take books to people homes. The mobile library is only for people who can get to it, luckily for me it stops just 200 yards up the road

It looks like we are going to end up with a mobile library, and that's only if we're lucky. The Council has run out of money. Another backward step for the village. It will lose a lot more than books.

Do you have a library you could go to in person, even if you do not wish to. Maybe for returns? I remember the Bookmobile coming, summer afternoons, when I was a child. Once a week! I was thrilled, tho my mom also took us to the library twice a week usually [storytime, play groups, and they'd dole out two books.]
