Advent 2024 and NOT A Collection

I've been saving this photo ready for a December blog post since May!

You've heard about my accidental collection that categorically isn't a collection of Portmeirion Holly and Ivy ware.

Well, I added something to it way back in May - from a boot sale of course.

£1 for a Christmas bell tree decoration, so not too big a spend.

It is still NOT a collection!

(Although I see there are now eight mentions in labels!)

My very first find is HERE

And it was one of the things in that lovely Museums Selection catalogue, that I mentioned last week. Selling for £35 reduced from £50!

  1. Your not a collection is lovely regardless of what you call it! That was a proper bargain.

    1. The cake stand started it all . Although now I don't have many people here at Christmas to see them all!

  3. I too have some Holly and Ivy pieces all from charity shops. I got a cake stand for £5 some years ago and it comes out every Christmas. I like the bell. Regards Sue H

    1. I spotted the bell just as a lady was unloading it from a box at the boot sale and knew what it was straight away

  4. That is a bargain to rate alongside your cake stand.

    1. I was expecting the lady selling the bell to ask more than £1 for it

  5. If you put them together, they become a collection. If you scatter them artfully around the house, they are merely decorations.

    You're welcome.

  6. I love the Portmeirion Holly and Ivy collection I've got a few pieces myself ready for the Christmas table. Wish I could find a bell like that!

  11. I LOVE holly so totally understand your weakness for them. The bell is beautiful and it is definitely a collection.

  12. Boot sales are wonderful. We never know what will be found and the price is perfect. Your Holly and Ivy collection is lovely and bound to grow over time. You've got a good eye for great quality pieces.

  14. I love Portmerion, as it has happy memories of a dear friend who had it as their 'everyday' set in their Welsh farmhouse. It is also superb quality, and it bounces ... as it'd need to with a slate farmhouse floor! We have a couple of baking/serving dishes and they have lasted many years of use. Bought in sales, as they're very pricy over here. Your cake stand would also look great with flowers or fruit on it.

  15. It may not be a collection but it is a lovely grouping and it is really such a lovely pattern! I do love Portmerion!

  16. Pro Tip. If you scatter these pieces about the house, they are 'decor'. If you group them together, they become a 'collection'. Just something that I've noticed about not collecting.
