A House
that opens to show all the windows and furniture
Bit disappointed by the pinkness but inside I shall enjoy opening all the doors until the 24th.
Window number one, top left, opened to a snowman outside in snowy weather.
I was looking on Amazon at Traditional Advent Calendars and found this one and thought of Rachel fellow blogger buddy over-the-border in Norfolk because she often draws rooftops although I'm 100% sure she doesn't do Advent Calendars.
I like it because the windows that open look into the buildings - the best sort of advent calendar.
The Art File Advent Calendar - London Rooftops.Next year I'll re-use last years German snowy scene, because I found it with the doors all pressed shut at the bottom of the Christmas decorations box.........forgot I'd kept it. Duh!Back TomorrowSue |
I am still sorting through all the decor and haven't come across our advent yet. We haven't done a lot of decorating this year as we are going away but it has taken me twice as long just to sort through it.
ReplyDeleteI had to drag the Christmas tree out from under the stairs while I was getting things to store food in when I emptied the old kitchen cupboards so while daughter was here to help wegot it all together..........already!
DeleteI'm totally with you on this. I like an advent calendar with pictures and those plastic trays which hold chocolate spoil the pictures. I also like it to have glitter. I bought mine about 5 years ago and press the doors closed every January before I put it away. My children think I am bonkers! Thanks for all your posts, Sue, you are the first thing I read every morning. x
ReplyDeleteI hope reading first thing doesn't put you off your breakfast!
DeleteDon't be daft!x
DeleteOur advent calendar didn’t last until the 1st. We ate the contents. Oops.
ReplyDeleteEr I don't think that's what you're meant to do!
DeleteYou are quite right, I don't have anything to do with Advent Calendars and can't get my head around them at all. They didn't feature in my childhood and I don't think they had arrived in England at all and the very idea of anything like chocolate to do with Advent in a convent school would be unthinkable. I do like your rooftops pictured above though.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember when advent calendars appeared on the scene, they were certainly around in the '80s when our children were small but I was the mean mum who didn't allow chocolate ones.
DeleteI didn't buy the roof top one - just saw it online and thought of you!
We had the old fashioned sort as kids in the 60's where you open for a picture....and the last one was always of the baby Jesus! Not sure when chocolates became the norm...and as for all the gin/prosecco/etc...ones that are popular now, words fail me!!
DeleteI love the one I got for Mum (and she does too, which is what matters), but I have an advent candle instead.
ReplyDeletexx
I had an advent candle once but forgot to blow it out so a whole week went up in smoke!
DeleteI am in my 60's born in the 50's and as far as I can remember have always had an advent calendar but back in the day they were the ones printed with a Christmas scene scattered with glitter and had doors that opened up to the 25th with little Christmas pictures - no sweets. The final day was always of the Nativity. They have been around a long time and are of German origin becoming popular here after the second world war. Chocolate has been in advents since 1958 but only become really popular in the recent past. I believe chocolate was always a part of the early Scandinavian countries.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy them with or without the treats but I do think the cheap chocolate ones these days with the plastic tray insert lack any imagination.
PS Love the December picture - it changed just as i had finished my last comment!
ReplyDeleteI thought I could remember having an Advent Calendar when I was younger but wasn't sure.
DeleteLovely new header photo, Sue. We’re doing reverse advent boxes this year with a list from the local foodbank. I’ve been saving any vouchers etc so that I can maximise the amount of nice things I can give. As children, my brother and I shared a paper calendar that had a religious theme. I’m sure it was the same one, carfefully stored, for many years( In the 50’s)
ReplyDeleteI must remember not to buy a calendar for next year because last years was lovely and I want to use it again
DeleteI like your new header. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteI much prefer the paper Advent calendars Sue.
ReplyDeleteYour new blog header is gorgeous.
Hugs-x-
Thank you - it's not as good as I wanted but never mind
DeleteLove the new header. Is that a cappuccino? I love em, 2 every morning. Not done advent calendars since kids grew up. We have a 'pixie holding wooden numbers at the moment they spell? out 23.
ReplyDeleteYes a good old frothy coffee - my daily treat - from a sachet rather than a machine!
DeleteMy son buys a Lego Advent Calendar every year, his favorite season is Christmas. I bought a Jaquie Lawson online one. I enjoy the music and the scenes.
ReplyDeleteI don't normally do chocolate advent calendars but I felt a daughter away at university deserved one! We always have an advent candle which we light at the main mealtime.
ReplyDeleteI must admit to buying a Cadbury advent calendar. Sigh. I was putting in an online order to a British shop and it 'fell' into my shopping trolley. Sigh.
