After 3 Days of "Freedom"..........................

..................... what exciting things have I done?

Well I went shopping without a mask, other than that ........nothing. Surprisingly I wasn't in a queue for a Nightclub to open at Midnight and also haven't waited to be served at a pub bar either.
And I've not been "pinged" as I didn't fall for that temptation to add the app to my phone! Apps? what are they?

Unlike those people waiting for clarification for their foreign holiday booking  or for things to "open up" I'm no longer waiting for anything. I've come to the conclusion that everything I want to do is already available to me.

What else do I need except my family, a home, a garden, access to all the books I want, lots of hobbies and a TV to keep me company. Life is Very Good.

So................. the only things I'm waiting for are the 15 books I have on order from the library .
Here's what I'm waiting for...............a  Good List to fill a blog post..................!

The Eastermost Sky by Juliet Blaxland
The Widow of Bath by Margot Bennett
Till Death us do Part by John Dickson Carr
Murder by the Book - Edited by Martin Edwards
A State of Fear  by Laura Dodsworth
These Names Make Clues by E C R Lorac
Loved Clothes Last by Orsola De Castro
Clutch of Constables by Ngaio Marsh
The Comfort book by Matt Haig
The Heron's Cry by Ann Cleves
The Joy and Light Bus Company by Alexander McCall Smith
Woodston - Biography of a Farm by John Lewis Stempel
Transient Desires by Donna Leon
The Stone Chamber by Kate Ellis
Easy Vegan by Brett Cobley

and that's not including the 9 books that will be on the van for me when it comes next week. Yes, life really is VERY good  especially with the warmth and sunshine.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. All I can say is that freedom and pinging is definitely not working out, the supermarkets are complaining this morning of no staff to fill the shelves.

  2. Dear friends, please wear masks in the shops for a while longer to protect staff and eachother. Like about a million or more people in this country bI'm on immune suppressant pills that mean my double vaccination is somewhere between moderately effective or completely ineffective so still waiting until infection levels drop enough for me to get to routine hospital checkups let alone shops!
Your blog is a window into The Great Outdoors!

  3. Same for us. Love National Marsh books.

  4. Masks are still required in Wales in certain settings. Out of respect to others, I shall continue to wear mine in shops and on transport long after the restrictions are lifted. Right now, we're spinning out of control in the UK and we've got a long way to go to undo the damage of what is happening right now with so many in self isolation.

  5. Yes same here. The relaxing of the restrictions over here has led to crowds and parties and an increase in cases from around 30 to almost 2000 in just a week.
We are going out and about but avoiding crowds and just enjoying the fresh air while the summer weather lasts.
    Enjoy your books.

  6. I am happy for you that you are settled in your new home, have all the things you need along with a wonderful family. You also have quite a list of books coming in to enjoy.

  7. A Clutch of Constables is one of my favourite Ngaio Marsh books, and going on a longboat is on my bucket list after reading it. Beautifully written.

    1. I'm gradually working my way through her books as for some reason I didn't read them years ago. I thing the book I have on request is a 3 books in 1 - good!

  8. I will continue to wear my mask in shops and on public transport. In fact many shops are requesting customers to continue with the masks, sanitising and distancing. I think it's only fair, not only for myself, but for others. The Delta variant is very transmissible. As long as I can see my close family, I'm happy. I wish it was all over, but it's not going to be for some time, if ever, so we all have to do whatever we can to reduce the risks for everyone. That list of books will keep you out of mischief for a while! xx

  9. I am just enjoying my life as usual and keeping myself out of trouble. People just love to talk about masks. I did a blog post about loads of things other than masks and then mentioned them in the last paragraph. Big mistake. I got an almost complete set of comments on masks. Life here is pretty good in the sunshine.

  10. I shall still wear my mask for shopping which won't happen very much for I am not going out muc, my D. got my shopping yesterday lots of fruit and etc. made a card for my S & BIL 50th anniversary

  11. We still wear our masks here in Wales of course, and will continue to do so after The Freedom is given here next month. With cases very much on the rise, we aren't going to Hay today (currently a hotspot) and shall go church crawling we think. Cascob - hope it's open as the Abracadabra witch charm is INSIDE!

I've been sent the Woodston book by my booky friend, so that's on the pile here. He lives not that far away, near Pontrilas, where all the huge logging lorries come from that you see on the roads round here.

  13. This is a refreshing post, Sue. Glad to read that you are getting on with your life.

  14. I’m pleased to read that you’re getting on with your life. Unfortunately my daughter is currently having chemotherapy and I’m her main contact so we don’t have that luxury even though we have both been double vaccinated, consequently our ‘freedom’ day is a long way off.

    1. Sorry about your daughter and yes if Colin was still alive and going through all the chemo I would be very wary too.

  15. I have to remember how people complained about mandatory seatbelts…lol.

  16. I didn't download the app either and while I can understand people wanting the app, I can't understand why those moaning about getting pinged don't just delete it. When I went shopping I'd say it was 50-50 mask wearing/non mask wearing. I did notice a lot of staff on the tills in various shops didn't have them on anymore though. x

    1. Yes I don't understand about the app either.
Shops still have the screens round the tills - might be a good idea to keep them as it could protect staff from ordinary colds and flu later.

  17. Happily living a simple life has its benefits, I've discovered. Sorry I didn't comment about your plant stand and succulents; it looks lovely!

  18. You are in a very good place. With a lovely new home, a garden that is flourishing, a new greenhouse to plant up, beautiful places to walk and books galore. Life is good. (This is a quote I read recently: "The quality of your life is determined by the focus of your attention." So true.)

  19. I am reading a lot also. I have Elly Griffiths latest of her Ruth Galloway series. I have enjoyed all of those. And I have the first in Donna Leon's Venice series next to read. It is warm and humid here so I can justify staying in to read all I want!

  20. Your new header photo truly does reflect your blog title...the quiet life in Suffolk. Indeed. :)

  21. That's right! You don't need much to be content. I think being able to reserve and read lots of new books is a real luxury, which I enjoy very much. By the way, I'm a former librarian, as are you, I believe?

    1. I was just a humble library assistant - no qualifications except a City and Guilds Library Assistant Certificate but worked in all sorts of libraries between 1971 and 1980 - mobile library, schools mobile, large town library and small branch libraries - often on my own in the little village libraries.

  23. I totally agree with you. All I really want is here already, waiting to be used and enjoyed. The rest is just glitter really!

  24. I've borrowed at least a dozen Ngaio Marsh audiobooks from online interlibrary loan - I live in a rural area, and even before all the libraries closed due to covid I relied a lot on the online option - and it's been a while so I could probably enjoy listening to them all over again! Thanks for the reminder :)
