In Which I Try Out My New Binoculars and Fail at Phone Photos

Please can someone invent binoculars with a camera that takes a photo of what you are looking at!

I've just googled and they seem to have been invented already!

Decided I couldn't carry my new binoculars and my big camera around the Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve - bad mistake as  my phone photos are hopeless.

There's a neck-less swan!

All sorts of ducks, geese and waders- but too far away to see on the phone photo.

and an Egret also too far away.

I thought at first it was a Little Egret but it had a yellow bill so was a Great White which are not so common and if only I'd taken my camera I would have got a good photo.

I also saw a Red Kite and heard a Cuckoo several times so it wasn't a completely wasted morning.

But all in all my photos are Hilarious!

However,  the new binocs are brilliant, (thank you family for a wonderful unexpected birthday present) I can focus properly and really zoom in well, so that's good. Next time I'll know to carry both big camera AND binoculars.

HERE's a link  to a short video of a Great White Egret for a better look.

    1. It's a shame this is a 40minute journey or I would go more often

  2. Some interesting birds to see with your new binos. We've heard the cuckoo once this spring, something else which used to be much more regular in spring.

    1. It was nice to be definitely sure it was a Cuckoo rather than a pigeon with hiccups!

  4. A shame about your photos. My camera skills are rubbish whatever I use! Lucky you to have some good binoculars though. Mine are just the small National Trust ones so are less than perfect .

    1. I have a pair of those tiny NT ones from many years ago. No good at all. They are in the room with the toys for the grandchildren.
My new ones are really good

  5. Oh I've taken so many photos of swans and ducks with their heads under water, I actually think that they are purposely hiding when they see me coming. 😄

    1. My phone photos seemed to be extra poor - I never get the level right and the light seems to make a difference too. My phone is not a hugely expensive one so isuppose I get what I paid for

  6. On a totally different topic, Sue, I was really put out on Sunday to discover that the French Open is on TNT Sports this year. We have Sky Sports and Prime but I must admit I gave in and got TNT for a month at £30.99. Have also put it in my diary to cancel at the end of that time! J’nan

    1. The weather turned nasty after a while so I didn't stay for too long - had to have a coffee in the cafe to get warmed up!

  8. This reminds me of the days when we used to take the roll of film in for developing and would get back an envelope of terrible photos! At least now we can easily delete the goofs! ;)

    1. Oh yes, the over-exposed and the heads chopped off - I remember!

  9. I enjoyed looking at your photos. I can't seem to get on with binoculars but perhaps I need to try the more up to date ones.

    1. These have eye pieces that adjust out and the two parts can be pushed together more so I can really get eyes right into the lenses - best pair I've ever had!

  10. The Wildlife and Nature Reserve looks like a great place to walk, see and hear the wildlife. The birds are plentiful and with your new binoculars you get a nice close-up view. I love bird watching and occasionally to the Plum Island Nature Reserve (Massachusetts) for seaside bird watching.

  11. I wish I had taken my phone for photos, it would have been much better than my camera Sue.

  12. What a lovely day you had. Your binoculars sound absolutely wonderful. My phone camera actually takes better pictures than my digital camera.

    God bless.
