Crime on TV

I read crime fiction and I watch crime fiction on TV but thankfully I don't think I've ever committed a crime! Although driving home from the coast after the Opticians last week I took a different route to avoid a road closure and came across a speed detection van - I was probably driving over 30mph, not by much although even 31mph counts as speeding and there was a car in front of me - I've got my fingers crossed. Colin used to say "they can see you long before you see them", he spent all his time driving and never drove over the speed limit, never got points on his licence, or fined or had to do a speed awareness course and he often told me off when I moaned about 30mph limits in places that didn't need them!...Or more accurately where I didn't think they were needed!
I'm remembering him especially today as it would have been his 69th birthday. It still seems all wrong to me that some people die aged just 61.

Crime on TV is a new series of 'The Capture' on BBC starring Holly Grainger. I know I watched some of the previous series but couldn't remember much about it, so I checked them  out.......Oh yes, it was that weird thing about Deep Fake - very violent. HG is also filming a new series of Strike coming later this year and there will be a return of the twisting turning Line of Duty  but maybe not until 2027.

On ITV Forgotten comes back sometime and the 26th series of Midsomer Murders although I've not watched series 25 yet, it doesn't seem to be on ITV X.

Ellis season 2 on Channel 5 started yesterday.

The 29th series of Silent Witness has finished, I think it was good but not as good as in the past and the set up of Jack in prison seemed a bit odd.

On the free U channel there's a new series of Bergerac and The Marlow Murder Club coming up. Plus there are lots of crime series from abroad with subtitles on the World Drama, Walter Presents section on the 4 catch up channel.

I found a huge list HERE although a lot don't have definite dates and some are not on free TV.

It's not just crime that I like............... I watch some sport and quizzes too! (but never soaps, true crime, wildlife stuff or period dramas).

  1. I am the same as you, I love crime novels and TV shows but never true crime. I think it is the puzzle solving aspect that appeals to me. Also I don't generally like period dramas. Some comedy TV I like, anything by Tina Fey.
Thanks for the link to that list.

  2. Thank you for the heads-up about Ellis I didn’t know there was a second series and the first was excellent

  3. There are a lot of good crime series about to reappear aren't there. Ellis is one of my favourites, I'll be watching it tonight. Like you I never watch 'true crime', I just think it glorifies dreadful things that have happened and the people that did them.

    1. I really dislike the way TV programmes are made from horrible real crimes, must be awful for people involved

  4. I have enjoyed watching The Lynley Mysteries on catch up ( the new version) partly because there isn't any gore which I don't tolerate well. Also enjoyed the new version of Bergerac so will watch season 2. Thanks for the info.

    1. I watched the first of the New Lynley but then forgot to watch more, I think I thought it was a poor comparison to the original

  5. Similar tastes to yours, Sue,(but not as much sport) Watched Ellis last night. Neither of us can remember series 1 at all. Agree about Silent Witness. Marlow Murders is next Wednesday (18th) Looking forward to Strike, filmed locally. Finding lots of older crime stuff on U channel too

  6. I read and watch murder mysteries, but I like a nice murder! Just tell me someone has been stabbed, poisoned, strangled.. l don’t want the blood and gore. Agatha Christie managed extremely well to write so many good stores without such details. Sad day for you Sue, sorry. If only there were more drivers like Colin…think of the heartbreak that would be saved. June

    1. Colin enjoyed his job driving round inspecting bridges and didn't want to lose it so was always careful with speeds.

  7. I always prefer to read rather than watch TV, however I do like Strike, both the books and the adaptation for TV. Hope you have a good day, memories are always good.

  8. I had a friend who was such a wild show-off driver he was forever having to organise some one to get his porsche out of a ditch. I wouldn't go in his car, and when driving I'd imagine he or someone like him was coming the other way when calculating whether to overtake or not...
Your Colin sounds a treasure... so sad he's not longer with you, you'll have many good memories to sustain you - small comfort, I know.

    1. Having come across someone who lost their licence through drink driving it's seems there are some real idiots driving nowadays

  10. I used to enjoy all the NCIS programmes but don't seem to watch any longer, too many cast changes and not the same without Pauley Pirette and Mark Harmon. Remember the heady days of Dixon of Dock Green and Z Cars? oh, and just one more thing . . .

    1. I've just started watching NCIS Los Angeles - looks like there are many years of episodes. I've not kept up with the original NCIS although I think that's the only series still being made.
Dixon of Dock Green is in my mind along with Saturday evenings, beans on toast and the man delivering groceries (long before Tesco et al began delivering)

  11. I hope the happy memories today are stronger than the sad ones.
We watched Patience recently, and Queens of Mystery, both on Channel 4. Most of what we watch has been recorded, so I never know what's current.

  12. I have just watched 'Gone' which was good, and also 'The Gone' a New Zealand crime drama. Don't like my crime drama to be too violent. Also, I find Silent Witness a bit too gory.

I don't think I've seen Gone - maybe I've watched too many if I can't remember which I've seen or not!

  13. This is a hard day for you each year. We celebrate my late husband on his birthday, because he died on our son's birthday, so that's reserved for my son. But it's a hard day even after many years.
I don't like true crime stories -- real people suffered, it's not a fun puzzle to them. But fiction is fine, and I keep finding series for Kindle that I'd never heard of!

  16. Watched Ellis last night and enjoyed it, also Gone was good. We like NCIS, but OH worked for The Forensic Science Lab and said its nothing like in real life. Its a shame when people who were good and greatly loved die before their time, my dear Mum was only 47, still miss her. Xx

  17. Hi Sue, I’ve been a fan for a while, specially enjoy your gardening mentions. I’ve been prompted to comment by your ‘speeding’ incident. Here in the Toronto area I was caught doing 41kph in a 40 zone by a newly installed camera. And fined $78, about £40. To add insult to injury a month later the camera was deemed illegal and removed. No chance of a refund though. Liked hearing about your tv viewing, we get some of those shows here. I liked season 1 of ‘Capture’ because I had a good look at Callum Turner, he’s rumoured to be in the running for the next James Bond.

    1. Fines are more here and three points on driving licence unless you do a speed awareness course. I'm hoping I don't get a letter.
Capture is very strange I watched the first in the second series and didn't understand it at all!

  18. I have gotten 2 speeding tickets in my life. My lead foot is not nearly as heavy as it used to be. On long drives, I plug in a podcast and listen to true crime. It is very comforting to me that I often instinctively figure out who dunnit right off the bat. Give me hope that if I cross paths with an 'evil deed doer,' I will know it and make my escape.

  19. I wish you a day of happy memories on Colin’s birthday.
Thanks for the heads up on Ellis, although it may be a while until it’s shown in the US.
I don’t often comment, but I often add your book ideas to my library list. Some are easily available, some not at all.
    Cheers.

I really enjoy crime shows too! I'm hoping that some of those make it over here soon if not perhaps my sister will have recorded them and I can watch when I come over lol

  23. I used to not mind the mysteries so much - now that everything needs to be salacious or violent, not so much. A period drama, however? Well, different story :D
