As my service to man(and woman)kind and being a glutton for punishment, when I saw these in Aldi I thought "haven't tried those, better give them a go".
They were bought and the first one tried and ..............
not particularly enjoyed.......again!
The pastry was nice, the chia seeds added nothing, and the inside was a bit gloopy and tasteless .
Someone thanked me for trying out all these different things so they didn't have to!
You're welcome!
Back Tomorrow
Sue
I find exactly the same about most of these 'lattice' type things. Nice-ish pastry, not-very-nice inside. A shame, because they could be delicious. xx
ReplyDeleteThe only ones I've liked and still buy are some from the Co-op with goats cheese, squash and spinach. - well filled and tasty
DeleteSounds ghastly! How unfortunate. Goats' cheese should have quite a 'bite' to it. Over here we get a rather good apple pastry with a lattice top, and the lattice top stops the pastry getting mushy. You get a gold star for service to humanity, putting yourself in danger to save the rest of us!
ReplyDeleteI suppose the gloopy was the goats cheese but it was tasteless
DeleteThey would have to have been a bargain for me to have put them in my trolley……having said that I wish you’d tried some (not cheap) frozen fish cakes I bought before I actually bought them……then I’d have known not to buy them 😊
ReplyDeleteI'll have a look at fish cakes next time I shop, would be handy if I could find some worth buying again
DeleteReady made puff pastry is fairly cheap, I've been latticing peppers, onions and cheese on mine.... But you are so right, those 'bakes' are tasteless.
ReplyDeleteThe Co-op ones - see my reply to Joy are the only ones I've bought more than once - quite tasty.
DeleteI'm so glad you tried them on my behalf Sue - I certainly shan't bother. Nothing "boughten" (mass produced) ever seems to hit the mark. Worst things for this are tastless quiches - it takes some real effort to remove every iota of flavour from something! Thelma's idea sounds a good one and I know is something you would normally do. If I don't feel like cooking these days, it's just cheese on toast or a bacon butty!
ReplyDeleteI have a home made quiche in the fridge at the moment, just two slices of bacon, fried onion and cheese and very tasty. Lasts me 4 days
DeleteThanks again, I do eat meat and fish free twice a week, but mainly make my meals from scratch.
ReplyDeleteSome weeks I eat meat a few times but other weeks might not eat any. I like to have a few things in the freezer for an easy life
Deletechia seeds oh dear , another thing i shant be trying
ReplyDeleteHave no idea if they have any taste if eaten on their own
DeleteGloopy is such a descriptive word! Made me want to avoid anything like that :)
ReplyDeleteI have one more gloopy one to eat- when I can steel myself!
DeleteConsidering all your reviews, it seems the majority of frozen prepared food is overall terrible. Lots of people must be buying it (liking it?) because the freezer section at the grocery store is always full. I usually have an egg salad or tuna sandwich when I want something quick.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm on about 2 out of 12 tried to buy again!
DeleteI have been watching my sodium intake and so I am reading more labels on products lately. So many frozen items are so high in sodium that I avoid them now. I wouldn't have been tempted to buy that, Sue, as it didn't sound appealing to me. Thanks for the warning!
ReplyDeleteI like goats cheese and red onions and puff pastry - but not like this!
DeleteMy daughter in law gave me such an easy bread recipe that you make in the food processor. I use it for pizza dough. It's easy enough that you could whip up a batch and stuff it with your own savory fillings. Yeast, oil (I use butter), sugar, salt, flour.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think it would be tasty with goats cheese in it. I'm another who thanks you for testing the product. I won't be buying any! 😂
ReplyDeleteand I've still got to eat the other one
DeleteThis seems to be turning into a hope-over-experience type of thing!
ReplyDeleteThat made me laugh as it certainly is!
DeleteHaving been raised in a farming community, I have yet to acquire a taste for goat cheese. It smells too much like barnyard to be appealing to me.
ReplyDeleteI kept goats for nearly 20 years and often made a simple goats cheese and it was never 'goaty'. But some bought are nasty, this bake thing just had no cheese flavour at all
DeleteYou are so selfless trying some of these things. :-)
ReplyDeleteI used to quite like a good goats cheese but never in a pasty type thing so I can't really imagine what these tasted like. Possibly a waste of good pastry. There's nothing worse than 'gloop' it's often like flavoured wallpaper paste.
It looked like wallpaper paste with onion!
DeleteIt's daft really as there's no need excuse for something being tasteless as the seasoning is so cheap. Arilx
ReplyDeleteOne would think the makers could at least try to make their prepared meal type things taste good.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I think chia seeds are gloopy, which certainly wouldn't help matters!
ReplyDeleteI avoid most highly processed foods. I bet the ingredient list is multisyllabic hydrocarbons.
ReplyDeleteIn theory they sound good. Sorry they weren't more tasty!
