I think it was to give WI's ideas for organising special meetings.
Here's what we could be celebrating or joining in with through January, February and some of March
I always do dry January - very easy as I don't do alcohol anyway! Not taking part in Veganuary - don't see the need. I might do the RSPB Great Garden Birdwatch - if Crumble, who is next door neighbour's cat, isn't in the garden. I hadn't heard of The Great Winter Get Together, so looked it up and found its organised by the Jo Cox Foundation (The MP who was murdered while serving her constituency). She once said
I will not live in a country where thousands of people are living lonely lives, forgotten by the rest of us.
Don't know if anything is happening in Suffolk.
I like the idea of International Book Giving Day in February - must remember that one.

Galentine's Day? I had to look that one up! 'All-female occasions of mutual empowerment'. There's a special day for literally anything nowadays, isn't there?!

Deleteoh, lordy mamma, Galentine's Day has crossed The Pond. Agree about the book giving day, but honestly, if you dig around every single day is a day for not one but multiple occasions. I'm a fan of Apple Day on October 21. Also a fan of Fountain Pen Day which is the first Friday in November if memory serves.

DeleteI’m another who’d had to look up Galentines Day. . and discovered there is also a Malentine’s Day (celebrating male friendships) as well as a Palentine’s Day (celebrating being ‘pals’ )
ReplyDeleteThe only special day I remember is World Arthritis Day - it’s on my birthday ((12th October) and is a gentle reminder that I’m not the only one with arthritic aches and pains
These special days always remind me of when a child questions why - as there is a mothers and a fathers - there isn't a children's day........

Your WI is very active and it will be interesting to see which activities they choose to partake in. You've had some great guest speakers.
ReplyDeleteIt seems virtually every day is a special day for something. I guess highlighting things and making people think about them is no bad thing really ... as long as they don't bring out special cards to send to each other to commemorate them all. ;-)

ReplyDeleteThere seems to be lots of day themes, week themes, month themes. Some of them are good ideas, others seem to be another way to make an attempt to get people to spend!
