.........................by someone for a taste test. I'd not even thought about Aldi having any Artisan cheeses so it was a good bit of information...thank you to whoever.
Beacon Blue is on their Specially Selected bit of the cheese shelves, along with a couple of others.
It's described as a creamy, mild and sweet blue goats cheese and this is what it says about the cheese and the company making it from Butlers Cheese website.(They also make another very easily available favourite - Blacksticks Blue)
Beacon Blue, our award-winning blue goat's cheese is silvery like the moon, silky smooth, creamy and fresh on the tongue, yet a good helping of peppery tang quickly develops leaving you craving more and more!
One of the reasons that our blue goat's cheese tastes so delicious is the freshness of our milk. The freshest goat's milk makes the best goat's cheese and ours comes every day from Nicola Butler’s herd on our family farm, just down the lane from our dairy.
There is no escaping it, we are a family business est. 1932. That’s what makes things exciting, and these family values are the bedrock of our culture. Richard and Annie started it, Jean and Tom nurtured it. Gill and Colin opened it, and the history page is just turning for Matthew and Daniel
It was a strong cheese - not mild and creamy as described - and OK but I thought a bit sort of harsh tasting - people who've had 'goaty flavoured' goats cheese needn't worry. There's no billy goat taint in this thank goodness.
It won't become a regular purchase as there are other blue cheeses I like better.

The weather on Saturday was dreadfully wet and I didn't go far, lots of water across the road in places and the low tyre pressure light came on in the car so I went home again and after the rain stopped pumped up the tyres and got the warning bleeps turned off. At Wimbledon the outside courts were covered and uncovered several times . I watched Cam Norrie get knocked out and then Harriet Dart. Heard that Emma Raducano had decided against playing mixed doubles with Andy M after all - something to do with match timings I think. Then I saw a bit of the football and after Switzerland scored, gave up and found a new Midsummer Murders to watch instead. I didn't know until Sunday morning that England had equalized and then won on penalties - glad I didn't see that bit - penalty shoot outs are bad for the heart!
The middle Sunday of Wimbledon used to be a rest day but they've had to use it for playing several times due to rain so changed it to a usual day of play a couple of years ago. Carlos Alcaraz had a battle but won through but the one remaining British singles player - out of the 19 (I think) that started, was Emma Raducanu who got knocked out by a qualifier from New Zealand. Only Brits left were in the men's doubles
I caught the Tour highlights at 8 - a bit rough and dusty there as they were racing partly on gravel which, I discovered, isn't what builders call gravel - and seemed totally pointless- and that was the end of sport for the day.
Then there was a new crime drama on BBC - The Turkish Detective - interesting - presumably we are running out of locations for crime dramas set in this country!
Apologies to several people whose comments went to spam, I check regularly but then found 15 there on Saturday, some from a week earlier - weird.
And talking about weird - there have been some annoying weird words on Wordle recently - it's took me all 6 goes to get them. - Spoiler Alert - yesterdays was a maker of cameras! (of course it had another meaning that wasn't a brand name - but a rarely used word)
Back Soon
Sue
Until you said it, I'd forgotten it was also a brand name. But I wouldn't say it was rarely used. It's often said, especially on Sundays!
ReplyDeleteI should have said rarely used by me!
DeleteThis year it's the turn of the underdog at Wimbledon, so many seeds gone, the ladies draw is wide open.
ReplyDeleteThere have been some good matches . Fils V De Minaur at the moment
DeleteWimbledon as it used to be - one week of watching British players, then the second week seeing the best players in the world up against one another; though in the women's singles both the Brits and the Best have mostly been eliminated. I was wondering, listening to Sun vs Raducanu yesterday, how much longer we can continue with this business of assigning a nationality to players; either of them could reasonably claim links to four or five countries.
ReplyDeleteYes I heard Sun had previously played for a different country.
DeleteSome good matches - wherever they are from
I love it when the underdogs come through.
ReplyDeleteThat cheese sounds rather nice to me, thank you. xx
I wasn't a fan of this cheese. Lots of others have been better
DeleteI have had a run of luck with Wordle and been getting it in 2s and 3s. Yesterday even with time difference I guess is long gone now and canon can be said out loud. I haven't watched Wimbledon since the days of Newcombe and Roche and Laver. I think what John says is very relevant about the first week being about a few English players and then the second week was when the real tennis started. I used to play for my school and we had a court in the garden at home where we all played as a family together. After I left school I hardly ever played again.
ReplyDeleteI was hopeless at tennis - actually I was useless at al sports!
DeleteHow funny Sue - after feeling very disappointed that Andy and Emma would not play , and feeling too tense to watch the football , I too watched a Midsummer Murder - despite its name a series I find delightfully comforting
ReplyDeleteSiobhan x
The new Turkish Detective Crime was interesting.
DeleteMidsomer Murders keeps lots of actors in work!
It's time for some new names in sport generally.
ReplyDeleteTennis is all change except for Djokovic
DeleteBut how lovely to see Djokovic's reaction when the game was interrupted by the roar of the crowd at the result of the England match - all smiles and totally forgiving of the interruption.
DeleteThe best sport of the day/weekend was the British Formula 1 race from Silverstone. A brilliant race and the best part - my favourite, Sir Lewis Hamilton WON!!! His 9th win at this course - a record statistic and a very emotional day for him and his family & friends.
ReplyDeleteWith none of the other F1 races being anywhere I can watch them I'd forgotten this was on until too late
DeleteIf you like blue cheese (I love it - well, all cheese really!), then look out for a Yorkshire one called Ribblesdale Blue, it has a blue wax rind. It's delicious, as is their Mature Goats cheese (the blue one is a goat cheese too). I used to buy it in a specialist cheese shop when we lived in the Midlands, I've also seen it at farmers markets occasionally too.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of that one - it might not get this far South east!
DeleteI failed at Wordle yesterday as I just couldn’t see what the word could be. Karma certainly caught up with Emma after she decided not to play doubles with Andy. I like a small piece of blue cheese with a bit of pear on plain crackers or better still in broccoli soup. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI did much better at Wordle today - got it in three.
DeleteThis was definitely not the nicest blue cheese I've tried
A young father I know took his son to Silverstone at great expense - we’re talking four figures but what seemed to annoy him the most was the burger and chips at £14 a portion from one of the hospitality wagons. A captive audience with no choice but to pay up.
ReplyDeleteGood Grief - what an expensive day out. Thank goodness for tennis for free on TV
DeleteI've still got a couple of those small waxed wrapped cheeses from xmas in the fridge - they are out of date but I must get round to opening them and seeing what's what!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the taste test, always interesting.
Alison in Wales x
Goodness - It's July! I would have eaten them long ago
DeleteLike Rambler, I enjoyed watching the F1 race in England as it was very exciting and the British drivers did well - 1st and 3rd! The crowd was huge and they were wildly excited at the finish.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't realised it was on TV - oh well - I was never a huge F1 fan even when all the races were on ordinary TV
DeleteOn this side of the Pond, Aldi often has something interesting in the cheese case. I seldom meet a cheese I don't love.
ReplyDeleteI had a run of brilliant Wordles with a couple of twos and a three, then I failed on one completely, there have been some really random words recently.
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been quite reasonable over the weekend, threatening and cool but at least the rain stayed away for our town Scarecrow Festival. I can imagine nothing worse than trying to take apart a soggy scarecrow after the event!
I check my Spam every day now, sometimes there are previously published comments that have somehow reverted to Spam, and this morning there was some ACTUAL spam ... first time in ages!!
I wonder if the spam thing will ever right itself it seems to have been sending the wrong things into the spam folder for quite a long time now.
DeleteWell I might try the Turkish detective because apart from sport the TV schedule is pretty slim pickings at the moment for good quality drama
ReplyDeleteButler's Blacksticks Blue is quite possibly my favourite cheese.
ReplyDeleteWordle has been rather irritating lately but at least it makes our brains work.
I find some cheeses either awful (never to bought again), just okay and others great. My cheese drawer in the fridge is always well supplied. I heard 7 Americans made it to week two at Wimbledon and this has not happened in a long time. It is 88 degrees F and very hot in the sun today in Massachusetts.
ReplyDeleteAldi here in America sometimes has English cheeses. Really reasonably priced compared to some places where you can find imported cheeses.
ReplyDeleteHope you get some brighter weather soon. I told my sister I'd blow some of our warmer weather your way, so maybe it will come soon!
