Halfway Through June

Well, the weather didn't warm up much for the weekend, which was the promise earlier in the week, there was  a really cold wind on Saturday. Maybe by the end of the this week it will be better.

I hoped for a fairly low spend June and at  half way through, how's it going?.

The garden waste bin had gone up £2 for the year but thankfully the Car Tax was still £20 - I had visions of them moving more goalposts from it being free two years ago to anything they fancied charging!
So all the main expenses have been paid and the total spend including charity donations, dentist, garden waste bin, phones and broadband, car tax, one lot of diesel for the car, incidentals including multi surface cleaner for floors, sunflower hearts for the birds and a new stool for the hallway (for sitting on for all ages to put on shoes) plus the one big food shop (and the two fancy cheeses and taking YD and EGD out for our regular Sunday lunch). And that totals just over £600. There will be more odds and ends of course and Electric bill at the end of the month.

Then I did  the second food shop of the month at Aldi on Saturday after a quick tour round the car boot sale where all I found were some Maltesers. (There are some Eastern European guys who somehow seem to have a stock of cheap chocolate every week!?)

After the big shop at the start of June I didn't need much. From left to right...........Salad Leaves 65p; Strawberries £1.99; 4 Nectarines £1.39; Bunch Beetroot £1.39; Cucumber 99p; Pack 6 Mini Apples 59p; Pack Fruit and Nut mix 59p; 2 x  Peanuts @ 59p = £1.18; 1 Kg Onions 99p; 6 Eggs £1.49; Tin Peach Slices  45p; 4 Pints milk £1.65.
Total £13.35

During the rainy weather last week I got around to looking at some of the 'Frugal' youtubers again. I really can't understand why some people go food shopping every couple of days - and it's not because they don't have a car to use. It's mid month and I've only food shopped twice - apart from buying the special cheese last week.
And some people picked up on one frugal blogger who seemed to have a real muddle in the kitchen cupboards so had no idea of what was there, but reckoned she was a 'prepper'! The comments recommending she sort her cupboards and write a list were soon deleted.

Of course I have no right to criticise - as I haven't the patience to be a you tuber myself! Better shut-up!

At least the weather was fine for the women's tennis final at Queens Club yesterday. Emma Raducanu played well - but only in the second set, but she still lost out. I've looked at the weather forecast for the week ahead and there shouldn't be rain which is good as I'd really like a few afternoons of watching the Men's matches. There will definitely be one Brit in the second round because Arthur Fery  has drawn fellow Brit Toby Samuel for the first round. Cam Norrie has the hardest first round match against the  4th seed.

Back Tomorrow.

  1. I didn't need cat food this week, so my shop came to £33 and that included 3 lots of meat/fish - King Prawns on offer, 2 pork chops reduced (can't remember the last time I ate pork), and two good burgers, plus fruit and veg.

I will have a chunk to go out at the end of the month as I have to pay for the Unit (£150).

One frugal Youtuber in France is only shopping once a month now. She makes me grit my teeth - so much control she never buys a single treat or indulgence or something she would like rather than needs. If we met, I know she wouldn't be my sort of person. No pockets in shrouds lady . . . Even her patchwork quilts are made from charity shop bedding. Half the joy of quilt making is going to choose a pretty fabric (for me anyway).

You have made me want to explore the frugal shopper with the untidy cupboards!!

    1. I've never found any pork that was as good as that we raised ourselves!
There are many frugal youtubers that I don't think know anything about being frugal at all but I don't leave comments - since I'd not tackle vlogging myself - can't really moan at those who do

  2. I agree with BB above, I now want to know who the untidy cupboards frugal shopper is. :-)

I have lost all patience with the YouTubers who just sit or stand, and talk to the camera. If I'm watching on my television and I usually am, either first thing in the morning or while I have lunch, I want something a bit more entertaining then being talked at ... unless it's a REALLY interesting talk. I'm actually more into the YouTubers who are not shopping for anything except the basics of life at the moment. There seems to be a real kick back to more simpler times when we made do with what we had and used everything we have.

Your little top up shop looks very healthy.

    1. I've got to stop eating too many strawberries - think they aren't doing me any good

  3. I suppose some ( not all I realise ) of the youtubers give us select highlights…..
I always have to sit down to put my shoes on these days and use my small collapsible stool umpteenth times a day first all sorts of things 😀

    1. I had a plastic stool in the hall but I guess years and years in daylight made it brittle and it cracked on the seat - not good!

  4. Most of my out-goings for June have out-gone now. It's a good feeling knowing exactly where you are, financially, for the rest of the month and how much you have, or don't have, for the next couple of weeks.
And I agree with BB too. One likes to see a bit of pointless 'indulgence' now and again - it makes them more human.
(but the quilts are amazing, all the same - wish I could do that)

    1. I like to keep track on spending - I can see how prices are increasing then a letter today with new electric prices from July - oh dear

  5. The frugal youtuber seems a bit over-the-top. Being frugal yet not knowing what is in the cupboards defies frugality. It is kind of funny. Quirky?

    1. The you tuber is very odd - she buys lots of expensive meat too !

  6. Being disorganized and being a "prepper" are not the same thing! Our cabinets are actually messier than I would like. Dave (who does the shopping) has a tendency to pick something up if he thinks we MIGHT need it, which means we have duplicates of lots of stuff like spices and canned goods. Don't get me started!

Having stuff that might-come-in-handy is useful as long as they actually get used!

  7. I cannot watch the lazy Craft YouTubers who make a mistake with their cutting or stitching then say 'but you wont do that' or 'it doesn't matter, I will fiddle it later to make it fit'. I want a youtube tutorial to show me the right way to do something! [I realise it takes longer to edit if you are going to make a good video.]

    1. Some people must take hours editing and talking and looking at every item purchased one by one. I'd rather be reading!

  8. Never have got into watching You tubers on a regular basis. I can barely keep up with the blogs I try to read.
