This Sunday just gone I was a bit earlier arriving, the sun was shining and oh my goodness what a difference, it was crowded............both sellers and buyers. It's not surprising really as all the other boot sales around haven't re-started but I think 16 weeks of quiet at home means that I've lost my car-booting mojo...........didn't really enjoy it at all. So a quick look round and home for breakfast.
This is what I found
2 Pairs of gardening gloves will be for the two Christmas hampers. Christmas books for the oldest 2 grandchildren and a couple of zip up folders...........total spend £2.50.
If I'm to go again next Sunday it will need to be much earlier and with a list of the few things I need to specifically look for, if I don't go I might spend the rest of the day wondering what I'd missed!!
Back Tomorrow
Sue
There is a very large and popular one in Bedale which is only about ten miles from me - I don't know whether it has started up again but I only went once and it was just too crowded for me. You always seem to find such good things. I think I might start collecting Christmas hamper stuff for my Greatr grand daughter.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite glad it's just the local one open as I can't really be bothered to go any further
DeleteYou do get some good bargains. The few times I went to a car boot I was not very successful.
ReplyDeleteThere is a ton of rubbish as well as a few useful bits!
DeleteI suppose the reserve we feel destroys the enjoyment of having a good old rummage. You are right about being safer outdoors though. I haven't been to a supermarket since the start of March, but we are fortunate here to have lots of small neighbourhood shops (cheese, bakery, butchers, grocery), and big open air produce markets with everything except meat and milk - even cleaning products, plants and some household textiles can be bought at the open air market. We never use the supermarket much anyway, and don't miss it one bit now.
ReplyDeleteI haven't felt worried about using a supermarket - can't afford not to buy somethings there as they are so much cheaper
DeleteI think we're going to feel 'uneasy' in groups of people for some time to come, to be honest. It does detract from the enjoyment rather a lot.
ReplyDeleteYou may not have found much, but what you have found is great, especially the book.
xx
I was pleased to get out and about at something like normal again
DeleteGreat bargains. There is nothing like the feeling of a great find.
ReplyDeleteI could have bought a ton of toys but think there's enough here at the moment
DeleteI would not be so brave as to venture out to a boot sale, no matter how windy, as I am not using cash now and I could not relax, not knowing who had handled things before me.
ReplyDeleteI have sanitiser in my car to use after going anywhere so not too bothered about handling stuff
DeleteI went this week , just to get away from our cuckoo. A book a plant a tupperware and a weird doll £2 spent then i sat and read on the local deserted airfield just for a bit of peace for a couple of hours
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your visitor is back. Hope you can escape again this week
DeleteRound here, since the charity collectors stayed home, people have been putting unwanted but still good stuff in boxes on their front walls for anyone to have for free. Lots of books especially, and also toys. It will probably stop now the plastic sacks have started through the letter box again. I suppose one would need to have quite a lot of things to sell to make selling at a car-boot sale worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteI've nothing to sell except a few jigsaw puzzles - won't be selling this year
DeleteI've not seen any car boots advertised round here, but then I've not really been looking for them. I imagine they'd be crowded if there were any, so I wouldn't be especially keen to go. You always find some really good bargains, Sue.
ReplyDeleteI just stood back when stalls were busy until people moved on. With 2 huge boot sales closed this one will be busy every week I think
DeleteAs we are both shielding, car boot sales are off for us, which is a shame as we do really enjoy them. I would be so wary of "who" had touched the items last though - we don't even get a newspaper for that reason. Perhaps we are being over-cautious but it seems I'm not alone on this, reading other people's comments.
ReplyDeleteDid you know newspapers are hardly touched by human hands. It's all machine until the newsagent snips the ties on the bundles when they get to the shop.
Delete(Had a tour of East Anglian Daily Times Office a few years back and saw all the printing, folding, tieing done)
I think Bovey Belle is correct in being cautious for herself and her family and it is something we have to take responsibility for ourselves without complaint as she is. I am not in such a position and am lucky I can go out without fear and abide by the guidelines. I am not a car boot person so am not sure what is going on around here but I imagine that some will have restarted because Norfolk is Covid free.
ReplyDeleteMy village has been Covid free, until this last weekend and someone has unexpectedly tested positive. Now the close contacts are having to self isolate, and we all wait with increased worry.
DeleteBad luck. I have a no worry threshold so I start from zero.
DeleteI have my fingers crossed that there will be one on near us in Wales this weekend. As I am due home for a gardening blitz to keep the tunnels looking good for possible viewings, if it is on I will be there and selling ... if not, I'll just sulk and get on with the weeding.
ReplyDeleteHope there's one open for you.
DeleteYou got a really good deal on the two pair of pretty gardening gloves. I’ve been pricing them in the stores in my area and they’re expensive.
ReplyDeleteHandy to put in the hampers for sister and sister in law
DeleteI think you must have a 'nose' for finding a good bargain! I have a friend who is the same, she seems to zero in on the most amazing things which others have overlooked. It is always fun to go around a market with her :)
ReplyDeleteYou found some bargains even getting there a bit late.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Havant been to a bootsale yet but star auction carleaon and brecon auction on this weekend and sully boot dave
