It was a pleasure to be out and about early yesterday morning at Needham Market boot sale - a beautiful clear sunny morning. More people selling than recently but still not back to pre-covid numbers. I found a few useful bits.
There's been a van there several times selling on behalf of The Elizabeth Hospice, things that they've not had room for in the shops due to them all being shut for so long. This week they had crockery, kitchen bits and jewellery.
There was a whole pile of Johnson Brothers Summer Chintz which is what I use all the time but I knew I didn't need anything except dishes and luckily 3 were un-chipped and bought for £1.
The Really Useful Lock and Lock boxes (£1) and the two gorgeous plates in the Villeroy & Boch Les Quatre Saisons series also £1 came from the same place...... So I count that as a £3 donation to the hospice!
The box of Duplo always comes out whenever the youngest Grandchildren are here so I added 3 more bits for 50p mustn't buy any more now as the box is full and there's only one more grandchild on the way.
Things That Go is a box of 15 x 2 piece puzzles and a really good find as it was new and un-played with and only £1 - ideal for youngest Grandson who loves his cars and tractors.
And finally a humourous book by Hunter Davies - The Joy of Stamps, this was also 50p. I've read his books of long distance walks and about his childhood in the past and, as a lapsed stamp collector, this looked interesting.
Buying the lovely plates (and btw these sell for around £20 each on ebay!) has nudged me to get the box of mantel shelf seasonal decorations out of the garage. I no longer have a fire or mantel-piece but there is the top of the bookcase or maybe the window-sill and I used to enjoy displaying a few treasures as the seasons change.
Day 12 in Tokyo and Spider-man is NOT science fiction! The Sports Climbing is a new event and the speed at which they get up the wall defies gravity. Then a 13 year old won a Bronze for GB in the skateboarding. Can you imagine going to the Olympics when you were 13? Earlier there had been another Gold in the women's sailing putting GB at the top of the Regatta medal table
So sad to see Katherine Johnson Thompson pull up with an injury in the 200m part of the Heptathlon and then I had to hide behind the Radio Times to see if Ben Maher would have a fast + clear round in the Showjumping final, he did and held onto the lead to win a Gold - Brilliant. That Gold medal moved GB up to 4th in the medal table and a total of 48 medals. Not sure they will hold onto that place as there are very few hopes of medals in the athletics because of the injuries. But still pretty good to be up there for a while just behind China, Japan and the USA. All "slightly" bigger than our little ol' country.
Back Tomorrow
Sue
Those Villeroy and Boch plates are lovely, not seen them before, nice find.
ReplyDeleteI came across them on ebay ages ago when I was looking for something for Spring mantelpiece - but they are crazy prices so when I spotted these two among all the china at the boot sale I grabbed them quick. I searched through their other boxes hoping to find spring and autumn but was content with 2
DeleteSome good finds at the boot sale.
ReplyDeleteI had missed the showjumping, but just watched Ben Maher's round and that horse just pours over everything like mercury! An amazing jumper. Now that showjumping's no longer on the tv I am out of touch with who's who and riding what horse. Brilliantly done though - another gold!!
I held my breathe all the way round!
DeleteThe V&B plates are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy best find of the year except perhaps for the plant stand
DeleteBeautiful plates - it would have been rude to say no really.
ReplyDeleteI loved your mantelpiece seasonal arrangements and am looking forward to seeing what you do this time. xx
I knew how much they were on ebay so had to snap them up even without a mantle piece!
DeleteGood morning at the car boot and a good idea they had to have a stall at the Hospice you got some interesting things.
ReplyDeleteWe are doing so well at the Olympics.
I went to our Knit and Natter yesterday 2nd one in 18months it was lovely to see in the sunshine abd have a cup ☕️ of coffee made for me and nice to catch up on the news.

Such a good idea to bring a van load of Hospice shop overflow to the boot sale. They had craft things a few weeks ago and I could have got carried away with all the craft papers
DeleteI love Lock n Lock! I keep all my paper wrapped store cupboard things in the big bread boxes. Villeroy and Boch are a beautiful bargain.
ReplyDeleteRe: the dinner service, I may have mentioned before, our tip has boxes and boxes of beautiful dinner services that have been thrown out during the pandemic. Charity shops are overflowing with them too. It's utterly criminal.
I've been using the Summer Chintz for as long as I can remember. It started off with some bought new by my Mum for us but in the main it's second hand picked up over the years.
DeleteIt will see me out!
I like seeing your seasonal displays as well Sue. Locked in again re. Covid in southern Australia, and a bit over the de cluttering, l'll have to get back to knitting as the weather is winter and there's still some Olympics to watch.
ReplyDeleteI'll get organised and search out what I have for Autumn display and see what else I can find before September.
DeleteLove the plates.
ReplyDeleteA Very Good Find
DeleteYou certainly get some good bargains at the car boot sale. I have my parents wedding present dinner set - 70 years ago - and I did consider getting rid of it when I moved. But have now decided to start using it, the only trouble is that it has a gold rim so no good for the microwave.
ReplyDeleteI love to find the useful amongst all the tons of junk!
DeleteIt's good to use something special, hope you don't forget about the gold - the microwave will soon start popping and banging!
I enjoyed the photos from your walk. I wondered what the moat would have been for? Would it have been a defence for the village, the manor house?
ReplyDeleteOn maps there are old moats all over the place - probably dating back centuries for houses long gone
DeleteWe're having neighborhood garage sales this weekend. If I'd known I'd be home, I'd have one but too late nw. I'll have to be content with shopping! Poor me!
ReplyDeleteI hope you find treasure!
Deleteyour plates are very pretty and I think with that value attached, an investment!
ReplyDeleteThe plates and bowls look nice. I remember seeing the bowls years ago. I read more about the Olympics in newspaper last night. 2 women from USA won a gold and bronze medal in a race. Enjoyed seeing them holding the US flag behind them. I saw article about youngest man that was in the Olympics. I can't watch it all on tv. Enjoy your day!!--Becky
ReplyDeleteQuite right Sue - we are back to 6th again - but we have really done so very well - all our athletes should be proud of their achievements.
ReplyDeleteThose containers are known as Lock & Load boxes in this house - use them all the time.
ReplyDeleteI was so pleased for Holly Bradshaw. Her face said it all. Arilx
ReplyDeleteThe V&B is a great find. China is my weakness and generally can not resist fine china at a great buy. All Brits must be very proud of their athletes.
ReplyDeleteYou do so well with your car boot sales over there. Unfortunately in NZ they are rare, and mostly people hoping to offload and save a tip trip! And the charity shops have become very expensive, or certainly they are in our affluent suburb. I look for toys for the grandchildren there, but rarely find anything. The local page for our suburb attached to FaceBook is a godsend though. I've picked up so much there, and been able to hand on what we don't need any more. Sometimes someone will ask $10-$20 (your £5-10) but I've made a point of putting mine on for free. My littlies are into Playmobil and Lego and we've scored some brilliant stuff. A cycle in the dishwasher (in a lingerie bag if needed) and they're good for another generation. I love your VIlleroy and Boch is lovely isn't it. We have a V&B everyday set Switch3 Cordoba which we love, and it is such good porcelain it survives the knocks.
ReplyDeleteGB has done well - I watched the Equestrian too. I had a pony as a child so it's my favourite discipline. NZ has done very well - particularly as we have a population of just 5 million!
I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
ReplyDeleteliver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
