Photos in Advent (sometimes called Blogmas) have been a "thing" on blogs for ages.(During the month of December rather than proper Advent)
Last year I wrote each day about a different Christmas book that I owned - most of those have gone now and in previous years it's just been photos of something connected to Christmas.
But for 2021.......what shall I do this year?
I had a big think, but no brainwave...... so it will just be all sorts of Christmas photos again, sometimes with a bit of history thrown in (people say they enjoy the folklore/special days posts - although they might just be being kind!)
Starting with the front door decor. I've not lived anywhere that people could actually see and walk past the door for ages but this year as I'm in the village and not at the end of a cul-de-sac I decided to join in.
In this months Parish Magazine a lady was advertising her home made wreaths and other decorations which she makes through the year from donated bits and pieces and sells in December in aid of the local Scout Group. So I went to have a look and came home with two for £5 each - one for the door and another (on the ground on the left) which I'm going to put on Col's Mum and Dad's grave in Bacton where I'm also scattering some more of Col's ashes.(I didn't put all of them around the trees at Clay Cottage because I knew I'd be moving sometime and wanted to take a piece of him with me - which sounds odd - but then I am a bit odd!) The swag is all artificial bits and bobs and under the shelter of the porch so if I'm careful with storage it should be OK for next year too.
After hanging it up I trimmed a bit off the bottom to make it easier for the postman.........can't afford to upset a postman in the run-up to Christmas!
People are not just being kind Sue - your posts are always so carefully researched and you really do put on the most fascinatingbits and bobs; I really do admire the way you fill your life - Col would have been so proud of you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pat.
DeleteI just keep going the best I can
I really love your background/folklore posts, Sue, and I think what you are doing with some of the ashes is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLoving the wreath.
xx
Col wanted a cremation - I would have chosen a burial with somewhere to visit - but I did what he wanted , He didn't tell me what to do with his ashes though
DeleteYour door wreath is beautiful. Xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks good for second-hand bits and bobs wired together and the Scouts got £10 towards their new scout hut - their old one was condemned!
DeleteThat wreath is lovely and amazing value. I don't think your odd still having some of Col's ashes, I think I'd have done the same if I'd known I was going to be moving. My Mum's ashes are sat on top of my Dad's wardrobe so he can talk to her when he's lying in bed.x
ReplyDeleteKeeping some ashes felt odd at the time but I'm glad I did now
Deletethat's a very pretty wreath and a good price. I make my own and know that if you put a lot of things in, it can cost more than a fiver! I think these small touches are so lovely for those walking through a town/village.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had 3 children and less time I used to make one every year now I've got plenty of time but no inclination!
DeletePretty wreath and very festive Sue. Love your detailed accounts of the churches in your area.
ReplyDeleteThank you - the Church visits and Folklore posts are interesting to write about
DeleteThat's a great wreath - and characteristically thoughtful of you to trim it for the postman. Hoping your first Christmas in your new home is bright and joyful - with many blessings for you and your ever growing family. This is a time of year full of poignant memories of those we love, but also celebration of babies born.
ReplyDeleteThought I'd better not cover the letter box - poor postman have enough to do without wading through greenery!
DeleteThat's a beautiful wreath and very reasonably priced. I've been eyeing up bits of greenery on my walks, although I have some useful bits about the garden and paddocks too.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your churches and folk lore posts.
I used to always make a wreath for the front door but it never looked very good and often fell apart before Christmas!
DeleteI love your wreath and such a good price and the scouts will get some money.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your post lots of interesting items I try to comment most days I always read the post but sometimes I am not myself.
A nice thing to do with Colin's ashs.
Going to the dentist this morning my tooth has broken, fortunately my daughter is taking me.

The Scouts are fundraising for a new Scout Hut so need all the funds they can get
DeleteI love your elegant front door. Best wishes for the Christmas season.I always enjoy and learn a lot from your seasonal posts
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteLovely door deco Sue, and lovely thought about the ashes. Sad you no longer have your Col with you for Christmas but enjoy the new generation doubly for him and relive the happy memories
ReplyDeleteHe would have loved being a Grandad - so sad.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous door wreath at such a good price. We had to cut back our Holly trees this year at the cottage and the branches were laden with berries but they wouldn't last until Christmas - such a shame.
ReplyDeleteShame about the holly - but a bit too far to go and fetch some!
DeleteThat wreath looks great on your front door! Good buy!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very Christmassy for everyone passing by
DeleteThat “tumbling” wreath is such a nice graceful shape.
ReplyDeleteYes, luckily no one will know I chopped some off the bottom!
DeleteWhat a lovely welcome to your home!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteThat door decoration is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying it
DeleteThe swag is lovely, just the sort of thing I'd go for. I don't think it's odd at all to save some of Col's ashes to move with you. I have some of Mum's in the pot of a magnolia - although it's not actually doing very well, she must be killing it off!
ReplyDeletePerhaps your Mum didn't like magnolias!
DeleteYour door arrangement is really lovely as well as funding a good cause. A bargain price too.
ReplyDeleteI was very pleased with it
DeleteThe swag is really beautiful and it was a bargain for £5. The lady who made it is very talented. Your door looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteShe had dozens of different ones - takes her all year to do the artificial ones
DeleteYour door wreath is very pretty, it's inspired me to make one of my own.
ReplyDeleteHave fun making one
DeleteNot just being kind, your folklore and counntry ways and weather/crops posts are something I so look forward to and read with interest and pleasure. Your door swag is lovely.
ReplyDeletelizzy gone to the beach
Thank you Lizzy
DeleteYour new swag is very cheerful with the red berries shiny and bright against your lovely black door. You chose well. Supporting the Scouts is important to me too. I also love your posts as they are always very informative and interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe village scout group is fundraising for a new scout hut for their meetings
DeleteThe swag is so lovely on your door.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I;m pleased with how it looks
DeleteI love the folklore posts. They are so very interesting.
ReplyDeleteLovely new door decoration. It's really festive looking.
Thank you Sharon
DeleteOh it looks lovely. I know a lot of folklore about Christmas but I am sure you have much more than I know.
