It was a misty morning last week when I walked up the lane to see what the Oaks were doing. They are losing a few leaves but most are still on the tree and still a lot of green to be seen
with others turning brown and yellow.
There are a couple of Ash trees up the lane that were much yellower and fewer leaves hanging on
The huge sugar beet field on one side of the lane is still waiting to be harvested
And now you can definitely see this field below, on the other side of the lane, was sown with oil-seed rape straight into the stubble - I wasn't sure last month.
And in the photo below the wheat ( I assume it's winter sown wheat) is coming through, turning the field from brown to green. The grass on the edge at the bottom of the photo has been sprayed with weed-killer so it doesn't spread into the field.
In the hedgerow the blackberries have gone mouldy and shrivelled
And just one pink campion hanging on on the grass verge
My new header photo for Halloween week is a full moon behind clouds with the spooky Olive tree that's out the front of my bungalow
Back Soon
Sue
Well, that weed killer sprayed grass does nothing for the environment, which other than that seems really lovely and doing well round there. Did you see the news yesterday about the Tree of the Year?
ReplyDeleteI've looked at the Tree of the Year now. I see one in Ickworth near Bury St Edmunds gets a mention in the long list
DeleteYour new header picture is lovely
ReplyDeleteI thought it was good a spooky for Halloween
DeleteThank you for the picture round up,much the same as our fields here in Essex. The header is ideal for Halloween very atmospheric. Pam
ReplyDeleteLots of mud on the roads now as Beet harvesting gets going in some places.
DeleteI agree with Debbie. Better to leave it to be fallow and of use to wildlife. Still plenty of leaves on the oak trees here, but some have gone over more than others. Sycamores losing their leaves fast and the beech trees in the garden are a beautiful colour now.
ReplyDeleteI raked up some leaves from next -door neighbours sycamore which overhangs my shed and garden. There are lots more still to fall and nowhere to put them now - my leaf bin is full
DeleteI look forward to your monthly tree reports. Yes we have seasons and deciduous trees etc here in Melbourne but the whole autumn/winter scenario is so very different.
ReplyDeleteThe months will pass quickly and It won’t be too long before you are all looking for green tips on the branches as the leaves reappear.
It's interesting to record the seasons change up the lane. I think there will be no leaves left next month
DeleteI guess they sprayed the whole field after harvest and some caught the banks. Banks are not sprayed normally. It looks like a pretty rough field in fact. No beautiful seed bed.
ReplyDeleteThe wheat is looking OK so far, green enough to see from my front path now
DeleteYour header is very atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteIt was meant to be full moon but the clouds wouldn't move!
DeleteI was sad not to see more color yet when we were in the UK and relieved that we still had color and leaves here when I returned. But boy, it looks lovely here. That oak is magnificent.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have the lovely colours that you have - mostly from green to dreary brown.
DeleteWe have almost no leaves left on the trees across from us although to be fair, most of the leaves are in our garden! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI have lots of next door neighbours sycamore leaves in my garden now
DeleteI love your new header photograph. It's perfect for the season. Xx
ReplyDeleteThe clouds wouldn't move but it made a good photo
DeleteI like the new header very much. Autumn is really very beautiful isn't it 😍
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Autumn is good when the sun shines - I'm not so fond of dreary days
DeleteNice spooky header!
ReplyDeleteYour oak tree still carries lots of leaves. Our oak is dropping leaves quickly this year. Our oak often drops leaves the following Spring when the new leaves are pushing out. Not this year, due to lack of rain.
Your growing fields are looking excellent and will make a good harvest. The farmers must be pleased.
No sunshine today with light rain and clouds. It is definitely Fall.
We are having a spell of grey weather but not cold yet
DeleteMy goodness, what a huge sugar beet field! One wonders sometimes how nature survives, so it is good to see your other photos of what is alongside these huge fields.
ReplyDeleteThere will be plenty of mud on the roads when that field is harvested. I'm not sure where they will pile it into a huge heap before it's put on the trucks
DeleteYour new header is perfect for Halloween, Sue! Nice photo!
ReplyDeleteOur trees are absolutely beautiful right now. It's a really great year for leaves of reds, oranges and bright yellows. It's very windy today so I imagine many will come down.
