My new header photo is the vine that's on a bit of trellis hiding the shed. I didn't notice the spider until the photo was on the computer. The colours now are gorgeous but the rest of the year it's dull green and I have to keep cutting the darn thing back as it grows like crazy.
Nearly the last of the roses? brought these in last Sunday while it was fine before we had a wet Monday morning.
Wiped all the dirt from the butternut squash and piled them up in a basket on the kitchen window sill.
Mixed up a batch of pizza topping for freezing in portions- onions, two tins of tomatoes without the juice, tomato puree and dried oregano.
Loaf of bread - 50/50 wholemeal and white.
Cheese scones for my garden helper
Brought in the last decent sized apples from my Falstaff tree. They are just SO good!
Hope everyone has a good weekend, I shall be back Monday.
Sue
Gosh…you’ve been busy Sue ! So satisfying having produce from your own garden and using your baking skills. I’m ready to turn my back on the garden and have started knitting…my winter occupation. Anne
ReplyDeleteI like baking and kitchen jobs . Still chutney to make sometime
DeleteLove the header picture and have just looked up details of the occupant, fascinating. Our vine looked like that until one of the storms suddenly stripped the leaves off.
ReplyDeleteWhat sort of spider did you decide it was - i've not a clue
DeleteIt is a Virginia creeper isn't it? I was forever cutting down our three. Not quite as bad as 'the mile a minute' vine which lollops along under concrete.
ReplyDeleteI thought about taking the whole trellis down as it would make it easier to get to the back of the shed but this show of colour has probably saved it
DeleteMmm, love the taste of fresh apples off a tree - so much better than the bought things that have been through cold storage. It just kills the taste somehow. Enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteThese are something special , never seen in shops and only keep for a month or two but a lovely flavour
DeleteThe basket of squash looks so homely. Cheese scones - I love them.
ReplyDeleteI needed somewhere dry to store them but out of the way, they just fit there
DeleteYour apples look very yummy. I love Spartan apples but you never see them in the shops.
ReplyDeleteThese are a lovely flavoured variety - not seen in shops
Deleteis that a baby wolf spider? I've got a few pictures where the spider wasn't apparent until uploaded. I'd love a cheese scone right now!
ReplyDeletePerhaps a Nursery Web Spider? I looked on the Suffolk wildlife Trust website they have huge and frightening close up photos of spiders!
DeleteMy favourite thing in the photo was those gorgeous cheese scones-yummy! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI kept a couple - very tasty they were
DeleteLots of lovely food, especially the scones
ReplyDeleteand those roses are a beautiful colour.
I'm making cheese scones quite often now - always good
DeleteWhat lovely photos
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Thank You
DeleteI have never had a cheese scone. If I help in the garden, can I have one? I am interested to see how you use all those butternut squash!
ReplyDeleteCheese scones all round!
DeleteI've used one squash now , will share photos next week
Your butternut squash have done well. I got just one large one this year. It was an odd year in our garden. The scones look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI only had one last year but 9 this year!
DeleteThe bread and scones look so delicious. Xx
ReplyDeleteThe machine makes a bread loaf better than any I can buy
DeleteLove the new header photograph. Would you mind sharing the recipe for the bread please? I love my breadmaker but the whole wheat recipe is a bit too strong - perhaps not the best description but I can't think of another :))
DeleteThank you,
Christine
The recipe is from the book that came with my breadmaker and uses 50% wholemeal bread flour and 50% strong white and 370ml of water (+salt, sugar, butter and yeast of course) BUT I'm assuming it would vary with different bread makers. So you would really need to find what recipe you would need for your own machine
DeleteThe Virginia creeper is beautiful, lovely photo. It is often the only bright fall color we see here. Those scones look delicuouuus.
ReplyDeletelizzy
I had a Sumach tree at the last house that was lovely in Autumn too
DeleteI have that same vine ( Virginia Creeper?) and it certainly does grow like crazy but at this time of the year it is so lovely!! I'm never sure if my vine is V. Creeper or Boston Ivy. I was given some twigs many years ago and now they cover the arbour.
ReplyDeleteYour roses are a pretty colour.
I'm forever cutting it back all summer but it's beautiful now
DeleteYour homemade scones, bread and pizza topping looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteHaving a tasty apple is always enjoyed.
The apples are the best I've ever eaten - really good flavour
DeleteLovely photos! I'll become a garden helper if I get some of the scones lol. My sister makes the most delicious cheese ones. She always brings some to the airport when she picks me up lol. I know that I can make them, but the cheese is just not the same!
ReplyDeleteI've heard it said before that US cheese is different to English - it's very odd.
DeleteThe bounty of the land.
