I had some lovely Christmas cards, didn't need to hide any away!
Good pressies
Got myself the Folklore Diary after a break of a few years (and gave it to BiL to wrap as my present from him!)
The Folklore Diary and the book 'Everyday Folklore', in that pile of books above are going to be used a lot on blogs in 2025 - you have been warned 😃
The three children all chipped in to get me a new lamp for the living room. This means I can move my old reading light from behind the settee to behind my chair and avoid having the ceiling lights on (that's the ridiculous 10 lightbulbs-all-at-once ceiling lights!)
It's one of those lights with two lights and came in a box in bits, with loads of cardboard all around and yesterday took BiL an hour or more to put together. Thank heavens he is brilliant at working things out as I'd never have managed it.
I fed him well with dinner and tea and he joined me with the first of the chocolate liqueurs later - heavens know what effect that had on his diabetes!

I have a reading light very similar, and i love it. I also have a multi-bulbed central light, and I loathe it!looking forward to folklore posts
ReplyDeleteOur ceiling light is one bright bulb and I also hate it! No atmosphere at all!
Delete10 lightbulbs on two light fittings operated by just one switch seems mad to me - but I'll live with them as they would be expensive to change now.
DeleteI don't understand why you want to hide Christmas cards when people are kind enough to send them to you. Rose in Australia
ReplyDeleteOh dear, don't you recognise a joke!
DeleteThat's better than a 10 bulb ceiling affair!! Glad you had bil to put it together for you. I have to rely on my kids (Tam esp) for any technical doings!
ReplyDeleteSon hates anything DIY .
DeleteThe lamp took an age to even get out of it's packaging!
I loathe ceiling lights, but they're necessary sometimes. A good reading light is essential.
ReplyDeleteLovely presents - the books look especially interesting. I must resist . . .
It will be lovely to have reading lights in two places
DeleteI rarely have my main ceiling light on and mine is just a single bulb, but it's so bright. Having my salt lamp on (but currently it's the Christmas tree instead) and the tall lamp behind my chair is so much better. And since I've had the tall lamp I've been reading much more as I can actually see so much better.
ReplyDeleteGranddaughter got a mini salt lamp for Christmas from someone - it looked interesting - changes colours
DeleteMind just glows it's own soft orangey, pink colour, no snazzy colour changing bulbs here. 😄
DeleteYou have some lovely presents there, especially the lamp. I'd love one of those. We put the table lamp on in the evening but it's a bit dark to read by and our overhead light has 3 bulbs in it :/
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Folklore extracts!
Angie
You can imagine how bright 10 bulbs are! I'm going to enjoy having a reading light in two places
DeleteI like the look of that Wordle book.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky today - did it in three. It was one of those ones where there were a lot of possible answers when I had four letters in the right place. Pure luck that I chose well.
The wordle book is curious, I've yet to work it out as it has one wordle morphing into another.
DeleteI could have got the NYT wordle in 3 if I'd chosen the correct first letter - took me 4 today and a fail on the connections
I am switching {no pun intended} my overhead lighting to floor and table lamps to facilitate changing bulbs as I can no longer climb ladders.
ReplyDeleteRobins seem to be on a large proportion of my cards, all out on display.
The bulbs on this new lamp are quite complicated to get in and out. I shall have to call up BiL when it needs changing!
DeleteI had lots of Robins on cards one year, this year they are a lovely mix of all sorts
I much prefer the kind of lamp you got, great for reading. I really avoid overhead lighting, not flattering to people or rooms. You got some nice cards. Most of mine were animated ecards which I played with for quite a while! Second childhood..
ReplyDeleteI had one of those e advent calendars one year but kept forgetting to look at it!
DeleteI have just been diagnosed with diabetes. It will be a new way of life, that's for sure. It looks like you had a wonderful holiday. I love that little diary...and your tradition with your brother in law. What did you get him?
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief that lamp will be. When we moved here the kitchen had 10 50watt halogen ceiling spotlights. I groaned and said to the estate agent, 'I bet they are all on one switch as well'. Sure enough they were. 500w to have them on, it was like being on a football pitch. It didn't stop us buying the bungalow, but getting rid of them was the first job.
ReplyDeleteLovely cards and presents. It's good to know you are all set up for 2025 blogging.
Nice cards and presents, Sue. I like that lamp! Perfect for reading or crafting on the couch!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lovely Christmas with beautiful cards and wonderful gifts. I could use a lamp like that! And the diary looks interesting as well as useful!
ReplyDeleteLovely gifts. Your new floor lamp looks perfect. Your family chose well. Having good illumination is especially important for reading.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely cards and gifts. They do know you well! I have that folklore and wisdom diary. I think I treated myself to it when I saw it on your blog earlier! Love the mug!
ReplyDeleteNice journal and lights that you got for Christmas. I've got two of those lights. My mom gave us one some years ago. I bought a new mug a few weeks ago that two a rabbit on it with snow. I'm glad you bil was helpful.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year !!!
