Abandoned x 3

Last Friday when it rained hard all day, would have been perfect for getting on with the any of the things  started during the week.........reading, cross stitching or the jigsaw puzzle.

But the cross stitch I'd started - a small bookmark kit that had been hanging around for years  - turned out to have some really odd colours that were all similar and I didn't like them - I gave up and found the threads and Aida needed for doing  a little picture I've done umpteen times before as it makes a nice little card plus I realised I only have small two-fold aperture cards left now anyway. So can't do anything bigger without buying more card blanks.

I tried to do some of the outer edge of the jigsaw puzzle but the sky edge was impossible, there seemed to be too many pieces. So gave up on that too. Now I don't even fancy doing either of the other jigsaws found during the summer. I think I'll get my scrap book things out on the table instead.

And finally I started the British Library Crime Classic Death in High Heels by Christianna Brand. I've read several of her others that BLCC have published previously and they've all been good. But this one was just silly. It turns out it was the first book she wrote and had published so she must have improved later.
And after the huge pile of books from the library van it's not as if I'm short of good reading.

  1. It's really annoying when plans don't quite work out as you expect. I am much more ruthless now about abandoning a book rather than persisting, life's too short and there are so many books to read.

    1. I've got so many good books now the mobile's been round so it was easy to abandon this one

  2. Peter Rabbit - started nearly a year ago for Rosie - is languishing as his waistcoat has about 6 colour browns, all one number apart, and is a PITA to work on. Then there is Elderberry Bunny, waiting for me to be in a Knitting Mood again. May take my Cottage on a Cliff picture along to Patchwork tomorrow, as although hand sewn, it is applique . . .

Sorry that the jigsaws were too annoying. I have a feeling Tenby may be like that, so will look out for a couple more 500 piece ones when in Llandod this morning.

  3. Sometimes I can feel like abandoning a whole day when things start to go wrong from the moment I get up!!

  4. I have had a spell like this recently but at the weekend I finished a diamond painting bag that I was given as a gift. I now need to get my sewing machine set up and make some new cushion covers from some preloved material. It’s raining today so this seems like the day to start. Catriona

  5. Glad you know when to toss something away instead of keeping on just for the sake of finishing. I do that with books all the time.

  7. Stopping and starting several things can be irritating, but eventually something sticks.

    1. One annoying jigsaw has put me right off them but still plenty to read

  8. I often just use the colors I have or I like when cross stitching. I don't always follow the exact pattern as who knows what it was supposed to look like as long as it turns out the way I like it! ;)

  9. "Death in High Heels" is a fun title. Too bad the book didn't live up to it!

    1. Should have been a good read but just too silly

  10. It is said, things happen in threes. You've had your three abandonments. You are officially done, and your next project will be great.
On cold Winter days, I also like visiting a nice coffee shop. They are all having sales, so I came home with a cold brew coffee maker. Making ice coffee in the Summer is always enjoyed.

  11. Many a project is lying around my home half done or just started. One of these days I will need to pull them out and finish them all.
Glad you had another cross stitch project to do, and lots of reading material.

    God bless.

  12. You know, I used to enjoy hand sewing. I had the urge to try it some time back and found my eyes were too poor. I have prescriptions glasses now. I should try it again.

  13. I found it hard to settle to anything over the last couple of days too. It was too dark at the kitchen table for card making, too dark for my jigsaw and I didn't feel much like baking either. I ended up reading in the living room snuggled under a blanket with a mug of tea. Not very productive! Maybe I need to re-discover the small bits of cross stitch that I put aside last year. Your duck one looks great!

  14. It sounds like you are jumping from one thing to the next with very little enthusiasm, just like me. I can't seem to settle into anything at the moment, and it's far too dark in the mornings to be sat reading.

  15. Sometimes it seems things go that way. You fancy doing something, but nothing really appeals. I'd say read a good book, but that didn't turn out well either!
