Two Jumble Sales

For the first time in a week the sun shone on Saturday and I popped 15 minutes away to a Jumble Sale.

There was a long queue ready for door opening, as usual - but look - Blue Sky!

and it's a tiny village hall but very well used. The Jumble sale is a fundraiser for the hall.

It's a squash inside when everyone is in and requires much shuffling about. This year I only  found  one  thing to buy- a  Mason Cash pudding basin for £1 (no books sadly, last year I found a Kristin Hannah that I'd not read).. The bowl is a replacement for one that came back from BiL's after Christmas with a huge crack. He said it was OK when he washed it up!

It says 'God save the cream' with a crown!

There was time to go home get lunch and then out again for the Scout Jumble Sale in Eye Town Hall. The queue to get in was even longer than the one at Thornham and the squash inside so big that after a while they were operating a one in one out system.

I found a book I'd not seen before  to add to my Suffolk book shelf for 50p  and spent £1on the tombola where  I won a bottle of Coffee Liqueur which sounds disgusting....I'll have to find someone to give it to!

It was nice to get out and about after several grey, wet days at home. Sadly the sun hasn't been seen again since and the forecast is just as dull. The jumble sales, exercise group and a quick dash out for a shop were the only trips out all week and I realised I'd not had any sort of proper conversation with anyone for 6 days!.

The weather makes it difficult to get up the enthusiasm for anything..... except reading!.

  1. I sometimes wonder if those weird liqueurs bought abroad as holiday gifts are EVER opened - or do they spend the next five years travelling the county as prizes in raffles and tombolas?

    1. I think you're right. Might be best used as a drain cleaner!

  2. I now have a mental picture of bottles of hooch of uncertain age travelling on an unending journey from one charity event to the next... circular economy and recycling taken to extremes...

  3. Yuk - drain cleaner sounds like a fitting end for it!

No jumble sales in these parts. I used to love a good jumble sale too. Glad you found a replacement bowl and a good book anyway.

    1. If I remember there might be another jumble sale in the autumn - but that's it nowadays

  4. Two dry sunny days were brilliant, like you we are back to grey and dull, last night we had the heaviest rainstorm lasting for hours, it's stopped raining so the children got to school dry.

  5. We had a suspicious bottle of red wine that showed up at regular intervals for a couple of years in local raffles. The Mason Cash is a good buy indeed. We don't seem to have had a good Jumble Sale here for ages, they used to be a regular feature.
no joy yet on my Facebook reinstatement, I fear the worse.

    1. Back in the 80's there was a jumble sale somewhere close every Saturday - just these two now which is why there's such long queues

I love a rummage sale, not been to one (a decent one) what feels like an age.

    1. Jumbles are a rare thing here so two on one day is really odd. No more now that I know of.

  7. Coffee liquour sounds awful to me, too. I don't even like coffee in cooking. The sales look fun even if not super productive. I do like your bowl and the book was a nice find!

  8. We have blue skies and sun but it is still very, very cold here so I'm not getting out for my walks at all. Hope you get some better weather, Sue.

  9. That's a long time to go without talking to anyone. Very cold here. i went out to the post office to mail off Granddaughter #4's birthday gifts. I drove because too cold to walk and piles are high next to the roads.

  10. You got a very nice replacement bowl, and the price was more than reasonable. As I've said before, I wish we had sales like these.
No sun today. We have approximately 24 inches of snow on the ground. The snow comes to above my knees, and the dog has to jump/hop to navigate the depth of snow. The plow has kept my driveway and road clear.

  11. It's good to see there are some jumble sales around, they seemed to disappear for a while. A nice pudding basin for a good price.

  13. I wonder if car boot sales have taken the place of jumble sales. Some of them are huge affairs.

  14. I was invited to a fundraising dinner once, that had prizes, and the one we won was this ghastly white china hand, that was the parish joke, whoever won it, promptly donated it and it was held for the next year's dinner!! On the disgusting liqueur, have you thought of making Tiramisu? It is a great dessert!! I'm envious of your jumble sales, they are a thing of the past over here.

  15. Here, if the sky is blue, the temperatures are unbearably cold. If it is cloudy, it is warmer but snowing. I am tired of winter. Another storm moving in this weekend.

  16. How wonderful to get to a couple of sales. Ours will not start here for awhile yet and most groups have stopped doing them.

    God bless.
