Collected from the Library Van last week, all books I'd requested on-line and Goody, Good - Plenty to read.
7 crime set in various periods in history. 2 Cookery books - I've borrowed The Savvy Shopper before but spotted it on someones blog and decided to have another look. I usually like Rachel Hore's books, this is her most recent. 'Waiting for War' is another look at the phoney war from 1939 - 1940. 'Close to where the Heart Gives Out' is subtitled 'A Year in the Life of an Orkney Doctor', which tells you what it's about. 'Confessions of a Bookseller' is the second by this author and the first was excellent. Finally 'The Victory Garden', not an author I'm familiar with and the story isn't a mystery or set in WWII so I'm not sure why I ordered it, unless I read about it on a blog. Hope it didn't get into my pile of requests by mistake and was really meant for someone else.
I'm looking forward to reading several of these, just have to decide which to start with.
I read almost everything from last month's haul - which is unusual The only two I couldn't get into were Dancing with Bees and All Clear. Hare and Moon was just a 'looking at' book and The Modern Herbal is very comprehensive and if I didn't already have a couple of books on herbs I might have coveted this one.

That's a lot of reading you have there. Do you specifically set aside time to read each day or just pick up your books as and when you can. It's nice when you find one you can't put down isn't it. I'm a bedtime reader and stay up way too late when I've a good book on the go. xx
ReplyDeleteWhen I read depends on the book, mostly just evenings after I've turned off the lap top, unless it's really good. I can't stay up late as I'd be useless next day!
DeleteI read the first book by the Bookseller man as I know the shop very well - it is round the bay from our cottage, so will definitely read his new one.
ReplyDeleteI have just been having a catch up with all the blogs and just wanted to say how interesting your local produce challenge was. We do not have a farm shop around here, being a sheep area, there is little produce grown and nothing organic. our biggest claim to fame is the Longley Farm yoghurt factory - I actualy prefer Yeo farm though as Longley farm is quite sour in taste and not so creamy so they have to add a lot of sugar.
The eat local was interesting to do. I'm going to treat myself to the posh butter for Christmas!

ReplyDeleteI have read a few of Rhys Bowens books and quite enjoyed them. There are a few mystery/crime novels by that author.

DeleteVictory Garden is WWI, I believe rather than WWII, and involves garden issues, although as I recall, not in depth. Some of her other books are WWII based. I love the Lady Georgie mystery series set between the wars. Spoof/cozy mysteries about a pennyless young woman 35 or so in line for the throne of England. But not sure how well they play to English readers. As an American I enjoy them.

Wow that looks like quite a nice lot of books! I've stopped going to the library for a while (or ordering any lol) as I am trying to downsize my book hoard.

DeleteYou always give me ideas of what to order at the library. It seems to me I have read and enjoyed a book by Nicola Upson so I might start with that one. I still haven't got the Ann Cleves book from last month!
