U is for Upset?

The U I had planned  didn't happen.

Last Years U was  Underwear - specifically the garment called a Liberty Bodice, a properly written post!.

So I was Upset that I'd not made an effort for this year. Upset? Really? no of course not! takes a lot more than that  to upset me nowadays.

When you have lost the person you have shared everything with for 38 years, small things can't upset  anymore.

Other words beginning with the letter U.

Umbrage = To take offence at something said or in the case of blogs and comments - written. I'd like to take umbrage at comments that seem to be boasting of things they do better than others but I can't be bothered!

Umbrella = I have  2 small fold up brollies that live in the car, they are both a pain to open and are looking a bit worse for wear. Umbrellas were never allowed to be opened in the house when I was young - bringing very bad luck.

Unheated = My radiators were unheated for just over a week due to a boiler switch glitch. There was hot water but no central heating. I was very glad of my wood burner and convector heater.
Ian, the heating engineer was very busy but he finally got here yesterday with a new switch that sorted it out. Just in time before a forecast of a drop in temperatures.

Here are 300+ more words starting with U. Just in case you are playing Scrabble or doing a crossword!

Back Tomorrow

  1. My grandmother bought me an Umbrella for my 21st birthday. Odd present, Under relentless cross-examination she admitted that she met my grandfather when he walked her home from the bus stop under his umbrella. She thought it might do the trick for me. Didn't work.

    1. Oh that's sad! I wonder if anyone ever walks another person home under their umbrella now - doubt it - too busy looking at their phones!

    2. Gosh that bought back memories of sharing an umbrella with my boyfriend - now husband. It was a bit scary as the umbrella spokes constantly pulled off my knitted hats. Nowadays we have an umbrella each!

    3. My grandma gave me an umbrella for my 7th birthday. Brought all the way from Paris, a souvenir of her travels. I was baffled---no one in my immediate family ever uses or uses an umbrella. Still don't. Baseball cap and rain wear. But now sort of wish I had that Parisian umbrella still--leopard print, faux tortoise shell handle, silk tassel, lol]. [left it at Brownies/ Scout meeting].

  2. That's a great list, helpfully inspiring comments... Many of the words begin UN and seem a bit negative - but your blog is Unique, full of Useful ideas and you are Unflagging in posting regularly, Unlike recent bloggers who have given Up. I'm sure friends and family alike would say you're Unselfish, and Utterly reliable. Yes Sue, WE ❤️ U!

I occasionally suffer from umbrage, ;) it's a killer but according to something I read this morning, I should learn to be like a Stoic!

  8. Unfortunately, I got upset this week and although I said nothing to the people involved, I wasted time being irked. After a spate of serious health issues in my extended family, I made a light hearted comment in a group text: "if everyone could stop getting sick, it would be great." I received a flurry of texts about serious illness allowing personal growth if only we were open to it. That was irritating to me. I can't even fully tell you why.

    1. Well, I'd never thought about serious illness helping personal growth- not sure I agree - does that mean a death in the family is actually Good For You!

  10. Wow, a whole year since the Liberty Bodice post ... I remember it too well for it to be that long ago! Yes, people are getting so Upset about so many things recently, social media is awash with people moaning over perceived injustices when they are in reality just different opinions.

  14. I'm glad the heating was fixed, though the wood burner sounds lovely. They certainly warm things up really well.

My U is Unexpected. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. My oldest sister seems to be having it bad lately. My brother-in-law is dealing with cancer, just found out his company has gone into liquidation and today his mother passed away. They will certainly be glad when this year is done!

Unexpected this year was also Son-in-Law's father passing away. He's only a couple of years older than me - in his fifties.

Good Unexpected this year was daughter and son-in-law announcing her pregnancy.
