Into February

Last weekend the weather was OK to get some gardening done but I had a disappointment when I picked  this up from where he was on the ground so I could rake up the leaves around, as it just fell to pieces in my hands

Obviously not frost proof. A car boot find from May last year - money wasted.

Ian, the heating engineer came on Tuesday to have another try at finding out why I'd got hot water and no heating. The switch he replaced last time was still fine but he found lots of gunge which might have jammed up the switch. He got it all sorted, perhaps it will be OK for more than 2 months this time!

January hibernation has involved lots of TV watching and with the Six Nations Rugby starting last night, there's something to enjoy on TV most weekends through February and into March. I'm guilty of watching a lot of TV, it keeps me company. At the moment I'm working my way through the US version of The Killing - from way back in the 2010's. I'm also enjoying our home produced crime series, Silent Witness, After The Flood, Madame Blanc Mysteries and Trigger Point, and Death in Paradise starts again tomorrow.
I enjoy the Great Pottery Throw down but I never watch any cookery programmes - finding them very boring.  Quizzy Monday evenings are always good, although Only Connect has finished for now,
they'll be showing repeats I think.
The Masked Singer seemed ever so silly when it started but is slightly addictive as after a while you really want to know who's singing but I don't watch Dancing On Ice - as I don't like seeing people fall over! The return of Gladiators was much hyped but I thought it wasn't as good as I remember and Bradley Walsh and his son introducing  aren't funny although they think they are.
See what I mean? too much TV and I'm turning into a critic!

Have a good weekend, weather forecast here is for mild and blustery.  I have a 4 year old's birthday party to attend and then will be back Monday.

  1. The greatest mystery about Madame Le Blanc is why I watch it. I think Robin Askwith's wig should get it's own mention in the credits. It has something of Last Of The Summer Wine about it (actors who were in TV series 40 years ago that you'd forgotten about pop up every week) combined with the awful French accents of 'Allo,' Allo!. Yet it is weirdly addictive...

  2. Please don't think of your Buddha head as money wasted because it wasn't. It gave you pleasure to see it in your garden since last spring.

  3. I understand your disappointment, but it's not money wasted, it's brought you joy for the time you had it in your garden this past year.
I'm with Angela all the way on Madame le Blanc, including Robin Askwith's wig!

  5. I find it impossible not to watch too much tv at this time of year. I don't find artificial light good for crafting and there is only so much reading a person can do. I am very glad to see the days slowly lengthening!

  6. We have been watching the Post Office Inquiry and the Covid Inquiry. Otherwise, apart from rugby, we watch very little live television.

    1. I avoid political stuff - although it's good to see politicians squirm

  7. I also watch A LOT of TV - as you say, company when on one's own. I'm binge watching the Crown, at the moment. Missed lots of things on TV when J was ill.

    1. The house feels incredibly quiet sometimes so TV is my company

  8. I hope you enjoy the party and the rugby.
I used to thoroughly enjoy the pottery throwdown, then it became
dreadfully 'woke'. Our village potter was tempted to apply to go on
the show, but then had second thoughts!

    1. The party is only family so not too loud!.
Rugby is my favourite sport to watch - football seems very tame in comparison

  9. We watch Madame Blanc, and are waiting for Robin Askwith's wig to jump off his head and run away from the wooden acting and dreadful script. It's addictive though!

  10. I watch tv everynight. It's company even if I am not giving it my full attention. I hope you don't pick up any germs at the children's party.

  12. I find tv watching a mixed bag........mainly because I can only watch so much of it and OH seems to be able to watch any amount.......he gets fed up that I just don't seem able to enjoy many films........ I like some, but they tend to be very tame....... for example I don't like Harry Potter, Indiana jones, Star Wars etc. they just leave me cold, I'd rather be doing something with hobbies......oh yes, that's another thing, he doesn't like me knitting/crocheting when the telly is on 😂

    1. Colin wasn't much of a fan of TV years ago. He couldn't read if TV was on so we didn't watch so much.

  13. What a shame - I am assuming it can't be repaired.
Good news that they seem to have sorted out your heating/hot water issues. Would it perhaps be worth having him back in around six months, just to check the gunge hasn't built up again?
I watch a lot of telly - well, screen stuff - too. When you live solo it can be quite a lifeline, I think.
    Have a great weekend. xx

    1. No, the top part of the head just crumbled into small pieces - poor concrete I guess.
It's a case of eliminating different reasons for the boiler glitch so he'll come back if it goes wrong again. It's not too much of a problem - at least I've still had hot water each time and the wood-burner and a convector for warmth. Just annoying and costly. The results of the previous owners picking a cheap combi boiler with a bad reputation!

  14. I try not to turn on the TV until after 6 pm but sometimes I let myself binge on the weekends. I can waste a lot of time playing solitaire on the computer, tho!
Hope the boiler is set and you find another lovely head at a boot sale this year!

  15. I'm currently binge watching lots of murder, mystery and spy series. Today it's the turn of 'Hunted' on Prime, good stuff, I've never been tempted by Madame Blanc though. Saturday night has to include The Masked Singer, and as from tomorrow Sunday night has to include Murder in Paradise. Enjoy your party. 🎂🎈🎉

  16. Your family party will be lots of fun. I am glad to hear everybody is feeling well. It will be great when we can all be working in our gardens regularly. Today was cold but sunny, so we burned brush for most of the day. One pile is gone and there is one more to go.

  17. We are going to be having a pottery throw down here in Canada. Not sure when it begins but I want to take a look at it. Currently I am busy watching true crime on Prime and Netflix.

    God bless.

  18. Sorry about Buddha falling to pieces. That seems sadly symbolic of the state of this old world, doesn't it?

  19. I was really hooked to The Killing (US one) when it was on here. Ha ha! I love all the mysteries you mentioned. I've been watching Shetland repeats. I managed to see the new ones that came out but I thought I'd start at the beginning again. It's something I can have on and do other stuff at the same time.

Sorry about your lawn ornament. Poor thing.
