Tulips Again, Shopping and Books

The daffodils at Aldi looked as if they'd been packed in a box for weeks so I left them where they were and dithered by the flower stall on the market. Daffs or Tulips, Tulips or Daffs?

The tulips were gorgeous colours - so tulips it was. If it's grey skies all week I have a bit of colour right beside me in the living room.

Second shopping trip in February and another week of replacing things used, to build up a useful store in the freezer and cupboards (prep for being snowed in for weeks or WWIII!?) Cabbage, tomatoes, pears, apples and grapes. Butter and Willow spread, cheese and milk. I'm building up a stock of ground coffee to use in my new machine, so 3 different packs. I looked for savoury biscuits to eat with cheese that had the fewest ingredients and came home with Aldi oatcakes. Also there are a packet of cashews, two sachets of cheese sauce powder, a jar of olives and the tube of 'guilty pleasure' Pringles....sometimes I just crave something crunchy!

Not in the photo are two packs of frozen sweet potato chips/fries - they went straight into the freezer.

Still  no meat as I'm still eating mostly my batch made meals from the freezer, and only a couple of things that could be called a UPF. Total spend £30.17

I picked up two books from the For Sale shelves in Stowmarket library. They sell off old books and get books donated to sell too.. On the left Rumer Godden - Peacock Spring. I know I read Greengage Summer many moons ago and I just liked the cover of this one. On the right is a follow up to Ring of Bright Water, which I was sure I'd read but it's not in my Book-of-Books-Read. Maybe we read it at school?  But I have read Island of Dreams by Dan Boothby which is all about Maxwell and his home and writing.

Wordle Tuesday = SCRAM in 2 = well chuffed!

  1. You have forgotten tea bags, apparently we are getting a tad short on tea due to the boat problems through the canals.

  3. I was given Valentines' Day flowers yesterday - Danny went out and got them for Keith - plus some for Emma and a little individual rose for "I". They really brighten up the kitchen, ass grey days (and rain) seem the order for February.

I remember reading The Rocks Remain half a lifetime ago. He had an interesting life. From a shark fishery to conservation!

    1. Well done Danny - yes grey is the word of the month

  4. I went through scrag and scrap before scram so took a 5 on that one. Today's is a miserable one with the answer being to me in England only a proper noun and not a noun and therefore I considered it banned. However it appears to be in use somewhere far away. So today was another 5.

  5. I stood in front of display of tulips in Aldi and was sore tempted but they were $5 a bunch, and I could not justify the expense. We'll have some huge bills coming in for the water line. But I was sore tempted.

I spent the equivalent of 43 pounds for our groceries this week. Most of our grocery money goes to fresh vegetables. (I juice.) Do you shop weekly?

    1. I probably won't buy any more flowers for a while now, although still nothing in the garden.
I need fresh veg and fruit every week and in our local village shop fresh produce isn't very good

  7. Like Rachel, I struggled with today's Wordle as I thought proper nouns weren’t used. I put in the answer at guess 6 and looked up the word to see that it has another meaning. I had never heard of the meaning so every day’s a school day. Love your tulips in their tall white jug. Catriona

  8. I got scram in five but todays in four, although it stopped me in my tracks a bit afterwards!!

Pringles/Stackers still call out to me as I go past them on the supermarket shelves, and believe it or not I am most tempted by the cheese and onion Pringles in the dark green tube, and I can't even eat dairy. I am just trying to only have a couple of UPF in any shop that I do and am hoping that little by little they will be phased out more and more. But I think just recognising the UPF that we buy is a brilliant step in the right direction isn't it.

    1. I only like the ones in the picture - I've tried others but no. I had a pack at Christmas and now these but don't open them unless I get a mad craving!

  9. Do you put a copper coin in the water with the tulips? It stops them falling over!

  10. Like you we are keeping a bit more in the pantry these days - remembering what it was like with some goods during the covid pandemic.

  11. I got today's Wordle in 4 but hesitated for ages beforehand, it now being an American game.
My Sainsbury's delivery today included a lovely bunch of Roses - my occasional treat and great value at £3.

  12. The tulips are a nice treat for you, Sue. My daffodils and tulips are sending up little shoots in my garden but it's too cold for them to grow too quickly yet.

    1. Yes, I've got a few shoots but it will be weeks until flowers

  13. Being well stocked with groceries feels comfortable. Adding tulips or crisps is always good. Sometimes I add a chocolate bar too.

  14. We heard there might be shortage of tea, so bought extra this week and those tulips are very pretty, so I think I might get some.

  15. I giggled when I read snowed in, and WWIII. That is what Harvey sometimes asks me if those are the reasons I stock up.

    God bless.

  16. You got a nice lot for the price. I always try to keep some things on hand. I'll have to check when I get back as - this time - husband actually looked in the freezer and the cupboards. The tulips look lovely. I bet they brighten up the house!

  17. It's interesting seeing your groceries and those that are similar -- and different from what we have here!
