When I wake up I often feel old! Specially if it's been a disturbed night - traffic, heat, aching knees etc. But if the sun's shining I don't have a problem getting up and Sunday morning I was at the car boot sale at 7am - It was the most glorious morning for being out early. The rain on Friday night and the breeze on Saturday had cleared the air, so all was fresh and lovely.
The car boot bargains were minimal - nothing unusual nowadays - I'm definitely counting car boot sales as an early morning walk rather than a treasure hunt.
My "what to look for list" in March included a plate for Spring to make a change for the seasonal display. I was thinking of something a bit bigger than this little Spring Brambly Hedge plate but as it was only 30p it seemed a good idea.
The very pretty birthday card on the left was 10p from the same seller and the cards above are a pack of 6 Christmas cards. I paid just 20p for these. The design is by Carry Ackroyd whose illustrations from her book "A Sparrows Life as Sweet as Ours" I often put on the blog because they are so good.
Now I've got to look out for a very small plate stand for this very small plate as it's too small for the one I have - it wasn't the plan to Add to the 'looking-for' list!
Later in the morning I went over to son's village to look round the garage/yard sales there and to see how they were getting on with selling their unwanted stuff. Unfortunately there were only 18 houses selling and they were spread out all around what is now a large village. The family were hoping for buyers but the morning got more overcast, hot and humid as I was walking round, there was nothing I needed or wanted anywhere, so back to son's house to get the car and then home.
Back Soon
That's a lovely little plate. You could lean it again the wall with a blob of BluTack to hold it in place until you find a suitably sized stand.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the skirting board the bookcase isn't right against the wall, so that wouldn't work - sadly as that would be a good solution but I have until March next year to find a smaller plate stand!
Delete! I love how you blend practicality with charm. Even without big bargains, your post captures the peaceful joy of simple mornings and little pleasures. Hope your knees are feeling better today!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteLovely buys, anything Brambly Hedge is a treat. Are the car boot sales any good for cheaper homegrown plants? Garden centres have become so expensive I'm going to start going again to the Country Markets ( used to be WI markets back in the day) where I used to find interesting plants at cheaper prices. We sow lots from seed and propagate but it would be nice to buy the odd different plant.

Car boot sales here are wonderful for plants and so much cheaper than garden centres. My replacement veg plants have all come from boot sales this year
DeleteOur village has done the yard sales, they create a map for people, and encourage them to walk around the homes, it does work on a sunny fine day.
ReplyDeleteI had a map and walked all round the village centre houses but mainly toys out for sale everywhere and it was getting hotter and more humid every moment
DeleteSounds like an economical but pleasing boot sale. With good weather too. Pity about the yard sale though.
ReplyDeleteA good walk and spending less than £1 is a result!
DeletePretty plate and cards. I don't do hot and humid either (melted yesterday!). What a shame it was mostly kids' stuff offered in the yard sales.
ReplyDeleteSon and DiL are taking what they didn't sell _ nearly everything- to Saturdays car boot but that is so huge that I'm not sure they will have a lot of luck there either
DeleteVery pretty finds. You've got such a good eye. I'm sure I'd have missed such bargains.
ReplyDeleteYears of practice!
DeleteLovely cards and plate. Good luck with the search for a tiny stand.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon ( was in Wales) x
I have a feeling that one of the market traders had lots of them one time but that might have been ages ago
DeleteI like your reframing as a walk instead of a hunt. I used to do that when I visited the local art museum. The long walk from the nearest parking became my exercise walk! You might consider fashioning a plate stand from a wire coat hanger
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good idea about the coat hanger - or any bit of wire. I shall consult Brother in law, see if he can bend a bit of wire in a vice
DeleteTaking a walk with a destination is perfect. With everything growing well and the birds being very active there is lots to observe while walking.
ReplyDeleteArnica cream is good. When I broke a small bone in my foot, my functional medicine MD recommended Epsom salts baths and this cream. Both seemed to help with swelling and pain.
I like the pictures on your new cards. Nice finds.
Arnica might help with knee aches although I always thought it was for bruising
DeleteThe same happened here, Sue, at my son's neighborhood garage sale... fewer participants this year & thus more spread out. Fewer shoppers too. We did well, with our stuff to sell, but I always price our items so low it's basically like giving them away. Gentle hugs & prayers for your knees...you know I know. Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteI just found out there are village yard/garage sales in my village at the end of the month but there's been no publicity. I've not got anything to sell anyway after dong the boot sale in April or May or whenever it was!
DeleteThat's a cute plate and for only 30p? I can see how you couldn't pass it up!
ReplyDeleteRight ready for next spring - Be Prepared is my motto!
DeleteThat sweet plate is a good find. I think like you - at least I get my steps in when I'm out browsing!
ReplyDeleteDon't let your mind tell you are old...my young son-in-laws complain of aching backs and knees too...in their 40's...and my young adult daughters have different challenges. Try not to associate it with age...let your mind give you a new message...glad the sun made you feel better.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely -- the weather, the sun, makes a huge impact on how our emotions are dancing around in our heads! Glad I'm not the only one!
