Random 'Stuff' on the First Saturday in July.

Bit cooler earlier in the week so we managed to get through the  exercises at Keep Moving Group. I led some and thankfully another lady stepped in to lead the second half. I just get so hot - my internal temperature gauge is hay-wire!

About 5 months ago the neighbours behind me had scaffolding put up and some guys came along and took down the chimney and then put it back up again. They also took off some of the tiles in various places and replaced felt and batons underneath. They came back weeks later and took off the ridge tiles and then cemented them back on again, took off tiles in another place and then put them back. Then they vanished for months. This week in the heat they (or someone else) came back and took down the chimney and rebuilt it Again. With my living room windows open to keep cool I had a continuous background chat from up on the roof....it wasn't very entertaining but I was glad they didn't have a LOUD builders radio like last time.

It might not seem like it but I have done some housework in between the tennis watching. With windows open so much the window sills get really dusty and lots of flies come in leaving their mark on the windows. The window cleaner only does the outside so it's up to me to do inside.

Another week of hot weather is forecast for next week - no rain. Water butts were all empty again and I've filled up the biggest from the mains. I'm glad I've not grown so much in the greenhouse this year, watering cans seem to be getting heavier as I get older.

Finally.................What's happening at Wimbledon? Last man standing - Arthur Fery  plays this afternoon and the Dimitrov/Berrettini match should be good. Djokovic and Sinner are in the same half of the draw so will meet up in the semis next week? maybe? if they both win Sunday and their quarter finals. I'm so missing Alcaraz and Jack Draper!

I've looked to see what events are on over the weekend but seems to be mainly music festivals, so probably just car boot sales for me then. Oh, my library books finally got to Stowmarket library so I need to go and pick them up today or tomorrow.

Have a good weekend I'll be back Monday.

(Happy 4th July to readers in the USA - some sort of celebration for 250 years I hear - hijacked or not?!)

  1. I enjoy the summer but I'm disappointed it's going to get so hot again, it saps my energy and there's so much to do in the garden. Books it is then!

    1. I shall have plenty to read when I get to Stowmarket to get the books I should have got at the end of June!
The heat has really gone on longer than usual, they used to say two sunny days and a thunderstorm!

  2. It's been a bit of a relief in some ways not to have a veg patch this year from the watering point of view, but I am sorely missing seeing the potatoes and peans and beans growing in their containers! Building work starts on Monday!!!

    1. Rather you than me with the building and I hope they don't have one of those industrial size radios. Good luck with it all - and much patience!

  3. Dimitrov/Berrettini match was fantastic, and Dimitrov was so happy to have won, it was wonderful to watch him. I’ve never much liked Djokovic, I found him arrogant, but he has mellowed with his children, and become more likeable. I will still be happy when he retires though. I too miss Alcaraz. His joy at life is such a happy thing to see. And we have another week yet😀😀😀

    1. Ooops, I meant Mensik, not Berrettini, getting ahead of myself there, sorry. Ann

    2. I just looked at the schedule thinking I'd misread!
Lots of Brits in mixed doubles which are usually fun to watch

  4. I’m flying my flags upside down as a sign we’re in distress. (US) Which we are. I’ll celebrate when he’s gone.

    1. Yep, lot of that here in DC suburbs too. Plus hot.

    2. Shame on you Debbie. What you did by displaying our flag in that manner was to disgrace the flag and everything it stands for. Because of hate for one man, you disgrace the lives given under that flag and our great country. It stands for the freedoms we cherish in America, not for who occupies the White House.

  5. A very different energy at Wimbledon this week . I am out of town at a wedding g this weekend , and so my late husbands Secretary and her granddaughter are using my seats - I hope they enjoy the weekend there . I miss Alcaraz , and Andy Murray too ! Hoping that Amanda Anisimova has a great tournament- would love her to win after the dreadful final last year - but also enjoy watching Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka
I have a son based in DC who has sent me photos of the events happening - it is not a bi partisan event and as he is not a fan of Trump he intends to avoid the 250 events

    1. I just can't get into women's tennis, there seem to be different names all the time which I can't remember from one year to another.

  6. I’m finding the watering heavy going this year even with water butts. I would really miss growing flowers but I’m thinking I might have to cut down a bit on all the very thirsty pots next year.

    1. It doesn't take me long to water everything this year - not much in pots either, although I gave my Bay tree which is in a huge pot a good soak today as it was looking a bit sad.

  7. It's been so hot here with lots of loud thunderstorms. We are supposed to cook out tonight but I think we may have to just cook inside as we might get more rain.
You don't have screens on your windows? I didn't know that.

    1. 99% of the time we wouldn't need screens as the windows are closed more often than open in this country! Colin made a really good screen door for our porch at the smallholding because having animals meant more flies around

  8. I hope the car boot sales prove fruitful.
Some rain would be welcome - things are looking a little tired.

  10. It is a very quiet 4th of July. No booming fireworks make it remarkable. I think, people are not in a celebratory mood.
Two chimney builds sound like the first build went wrong.
Our heat is still high but a bit cooler than yesterday which hit 107 degrees F in the sun. Today is around 80 degrees.

    1. 107 is far too hot! 80 is also too hot we had a lovely breeze all day today which was good, back to heat next week.

  11. I know what you mean about watering cans getting heavier as you get older. Mine does too. I used to carry 2 a time now one is much too heavy. Ive bought a plastic 5 litre one instead of using the 8 litre one 😞

  12. My sister went to the music festival in Ipswich. Glad this year was good weather for it - last year it rained all day!
I think I'm going to have construction next to me for a while. The house just sold and it needs a lot of work. They were selling it as a 'project'
